Office Chair Loading Test

Admin October 09, 2026

The office chair loading test is a crucial step to verify its structural strength, durability, and safety. It mainly relies on international standards such as EN1335 and ISO 21015, simulating the stress conditions during long-term use to ensure that the product meets quality requirements.

Loading Tests under the EN1335 Standard

  1. Static Load Capacity Test
The seat must withstand a vertical pressure of 120 kilograms for 60 seconds, and the backrest must endure a backward pull at a 45-degree angle to simulate the stress when a user leans back. This test verifies the weld strength at the connection between the seat and backrest, as well as the bending resistance of the chair leg base. If cracks appear in metal components or deformation exceeds 3 millimeters, the product is deemed unqualified.

  2. Structural Durability Test
The seat must undergo 100,000 vertical pulse loads at a frequency of 30 times per minute, and the backrest must complete 50,000 backward-tilting cycles with a load of 350 Newtons. After testing, movable components such as the lifting cylinder and tilting mechanism must remain fully functional, and the seat height settlement must not exceed 15 millimeters to ensure no structural damage during long-term use.

  3. Special Function Test
Chairs with a swivel function must verify the wear resistance of bearings and seals, with the swivel mechanism enduring 20,000 rotational cycles at a torque of 35 Newton-meters. For chairs with a reclining function, the relative displacement between the seat cushion and backrest must be less than 8 millimeters when the backrest is tilted to the maximum angle to prevent clothing from getting caught in the gap.

Durability Loading Tests under the ISO 21015 Standard

  1. Seat and Backrest Durability Test
A specialized loading pad is used to apply a vertical load to the seat, while the backrest load is applied through a backrest loading pad at an angle of 90ยฐยฑ10ยฐ to the backrest. The test is conducted in five steps, such as applying 1500 N at loading point A for 120,000 cycles, to verify the material's fatigue resistance.

  2. Armrest Durability Test
A cyclic load of 400 N is simultaneously applied at positions 100 mm from the front end of both armrests for 60,000 cycles to ensure that the armrest connection structure remains free of looseness or breakage.

  3. Swivel Durability Test
The chair is fixed on a swivel table, with a load of 60 kg applied at loading point A on the seat and 35 kg at loading point C to simulate the rotational stress during actual use and verify the stability of the base and swivel mechanism.

Testing Equipment Support

The chair and table loading tester features automatic return, calibration, and point-taking functions, enabling precise control of loading parameters. The office chair five-claw static pressure tester detects the load-bearing strength of the five-claw by continuously applying a constant pressure, identifying potential cracks or deformations in advance and providing hardware support for the tests.
