Office Chair Load Standard
Office chair load standards vary depending on testing standards, usage scenarios, and product positioning, mainly falling into three categories: gas spring safety grades, international general standards, and market mainstream grading.

Gas Spring Safety Grade Standards are divided into five grades based on usage scenarios and load requirements:
Grade 1 is suitable for light-duty office chairs, with a maximum load of 100 pounds (approximately 45 kilograms), commonly found in home offices or low-frequency usage scenarios; Grade 2 targets medium-density office chairs, with a maximum load of 125 pounds (approximately 57 kilograms), suitable for regular conference rooms or daily office work; Grade 3 covers high-frequency usage scenarios, with a maximum load of 200 pounds (approximately 91 kilograms), commonly seen in high-end computer chairs or high-frequency usage environments; Grade 4 is designed for 24-hour continuous use, with a maximum load of 325 pounds (approximately 148 kilograms), suitable for special scenarios such as monitoring rooms; Grade 5 is for high-intensity requirements, with a maximum load of 450 pounds (approximately 204 kilograms), such as extreme usage scenarios like truck driver seats.
International General Standards are represented by EN 1728 and EN1335:
EN 1728 requires chairs to maintain structural stability under both static (e.g., normal sitting posture) and dynamic (e.g., alternating between sitting and standing) loads, ensuring long-term safety and comfort through tests on seat surface load-bearing capacity, support structure, and armrest durability, and specifies specific testing methods for vertical load-bearing and horizontal thrust. EN1335 further refines testing items: the static load test requires the seat to withstand a vertical pressure of 120 kilograms for 60 seconds and the backrest to withstand a backward pull at a 45-degree angle to verify the strength of connections; the stability test simulates forward and backward as well as lateral forces, requiring the tilt angle not to exceed the design critical value, and products with casters need to test the locking function; the structural durability test requires the seat to withstand 100,000 vertical pulse loads and the backrest to complete 50,000 backward tilting cycles, ensuring that moving parts function properly and the settlement amount does not exceed 15 millimeters.
Market Mainstream Load-Bearing Capacity Grading is divided according to product positioning:
Entry-level products have a load-bearing capacity of approximately 100 kilograms, meeting general office needs; mid-to-high-end products have a load-bearing range of 120-150 kilograms, such as the Sunon Butterfly Chair with a five-star base capable of bearing 150 kilograms; products designed for heavier individuals have a load-bearing capacity of over 136 kilograms, such as the Xiangyaojia f3a and t3a, which recommend a load-bearing capacity of 136 kilograms, and the h6 model is more suitable for individuals weighing between 110-200 kilograms.
