Office Chair Load-Bearing Test

Admin October 13, 2026

The load-bearing test of office chairs requires specialized mechanical testing of core components and evaluation of their stability, strength, and durability based on domestic and international standards. The specific testing methods and standards are as follows:

1. Five-Star Base Testing
As the core load-bearing foundation of an office chair, the five-star base must withstand complex forces such as vertical static pressure, eccentric loads, and moving friction, making it prone to bending, cracking, or deformation. The key testing aspects include:

  • Compressive Strength: Simulate real-world load conditions using office chair five-star base testing equipment to verify the compressive limits of materials such as metal, nylon, or fiberglass, ensuring the base does not collapse during long-term use.
  • Eccentric Load-Bearing Performance: Test the structural stability of the five-star base under asymmetric loads to prevent fracture risks caused by center-of-gravity shifts.
  • Durability: Evaluate long-term resistance to deformation, screen for manufacturing defects (such as hole cracking), and ensure base stability.

2. Seat Assembly Testing
The seat directly bears the weight of the human body and must withstand frequent sitting impacts, long-term steady pressure, and foam rebound fatigue. Testing methods include:

  • Impact Resistance: Use an office chair seat repeated impact tester to simulate tens of thousands of sitting impacts and check for seat collapse or structural damage.
  • Collapse Resistance: Assess the seat's ability to recover from deformation under sustained loads through long-term steady pressure testing, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Structural Durability: Verify the connection strength between the seat frame and filling materials to prevent load-bearing failure due to loosening.

3. Industry Testing Standards
Load-bearing tests for office chairs must comply with authoritative domestic and international standards, such as:

  • GB/T 10357, QB/T 2280: Chinese national standards specifying mechanical performance requirements and testing methods for office chairs.
  • BIFMA Standards: Standards set by the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA), covering stability, strength, and durability testing. Among them, ANSI/BIFMA X5.1 includes over 20 technical requirements such as rotation tests and tilt mechanism fatigue tests; X5.11 (2015) specifies testing for 400-pound load-bearing seats; X5.1 (2017 Revised Edition) increases load thresholds and adds structural durability tests to ensure products withstand high-intensity use scenarios.

By following the above testing procedures, the load-bearing performance of office chairs can be comprehensively evaluated to ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements.
