Office Chair Lifting Methods
There are three common lifting methods for office chairs: pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical.

Pneumatic lifting is the most widely used method in the market. Its working principle is based on the movement of the piston rod inside the cylinder. The gas lift cylinder is a key component, with one end connected to the bottom of the seat and the piston end fixed to the top of the housing. The small push valve at the top is controlled by a height adjustment lever. When the piston is outside the cylinder, the atmospheric pressure inside and outside the cylinder is equal; pushing the piston upward compresses the air inside the cylinder, increasing the internal pressure above the external pressure, generating a net force to support body weight; releasing some gas through the control valve reduces the internal pressure, thereby lowering the seat height. When the piston moves to the top, the gas needs to be redirected back, a process completed by an external cylinder filled with compressed nitrogen. The cylinder is usually filled with high-purity nitrogen or other inert gases to ensure safety and stability. However, if a low-quality pneumatic rod is used or the gas purity is insufficient, the pressure inside the pneumatic rod may suddenly increase under frequent lifting, high temperatures, etc., posing an explosion risk. Therefore, it is crucial to choose a reliable pneumatic office chair.
The core components of hydraulic lifting include the seat plate, backrest, support frame, support frame rocker arm, lifting positioning device, etc. The hydraulic system adjusts the seat height through the pressure transmission of the liquid. However, hydraulic lifting chairs have some obvious drawbacks. Their cost (price) is relatively high, and their structure is complex, resulting in higher production and maintenance costs. Moreover, the height adjustment is not sensitive enough, and the operation may not be convenient, leading to a low market share in China.
Mechanical lifting is also used in some lifting chairs on the market, but the specific working method is not detailed in currently available public information. Generally, mechanical lifting may achieve seat height adjustment through mechanical structures such as gears and screws. This method may have the advantages of a relatively simple structure and lower cost, but it may not be as flexible and precise as pneumatic and hydraulic methods in terms of adjustment.
