Office Chair Lift

Admin October 08, 2026

The lifting function of office chairs is mainly achieved through three types of devices: pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical. Their principles, characteristics, and safety are as follows:

Pneumatic Lifting Chairs

Pneumatic lifting chairs are the mainstream in the market. Their core principle is to use the pressure change of high-purity nitrogen (usually with a concentration of โ‰ฅ99%) inside the cylinder to achieve height adjustment. When the user operates the lifting lever, the piston rod inside the cylinder compresses or releases gas, pushing the seat to rise or fall smoothly. Its core components include the seat plate, backrest, support frame, lifting positioning device, and chair legs. It has the advantages of low cost, simple structure, and flexible operation, and is widely used in office settings. However, pneumatic lifting chairs have safety hazards: If low-quality pneumatic rods are used (such as those with insufficient nitrogen purity or thin tube walls), or if the chair is frequently lifted and lowered or exposed to high-temperature environments (such as direct sunlight) for a long time, the pressure inside the cylinder may suddenly increase, leading to an explosion risk. Therefore, when purchasing, priority should be given to regular products that have passed safety certifications. Avoid violent adjustments and regularly check whether the surface of the pneumatic rod is intact and whether the lifting is smooth.

Hydraulic Lifting Chairs

Hydraulic lifting chairs control height through the pressure transmission principle of hydraulic oil. Their structure includes components such as a hydraulic pump, oil cylinder, and valve. When the user operates it, the hydraulic oil flows in a closed system, pushing the piston to achieve lifting. Due to the high cost and complex structure of the hydraulic system, and its lower adjustment sensitivity compared to pneumatic chairs, its market share in China is relatively low, and it is mostly seen in high-end or special-demand scenarios. Its safety is relatively high, but regular maintenance of the hydraulic system is required to prevent oil leakage or component aging.

Mechanical Lifting Chairs

Mechanical lifting chairs achieve height adjustment through physical structures (such as threaded rods, buckles, or springs), with the specific principle varying depending on the design. For example, threaded-rod chairs adjust the seat height by rotating the adjustment rod, while buckle-type chairs lock the position through fixed gears. These chairs do not require gas or liquid media, so there is no explosion risk, but their adjustment accuracy and convenience may be inferior to those of pneumatic chairs. Their maintenance is simple, making them suitable for users with extremely high safety requirements or limited budgets.

Purchase and Usage Recommendations

  1. Prioritize regular products: Check whether the product has passed safety certifications such as BIFMA and EN1335, and avoid purchasing unbranded products.
  2. Avoid improper use: Do not frequently lift and lower the chair or press the seat with excessive force, and keep it away from high-temperature environments.
  3. Regular inspection and maintenance: For pneumatic chairs, check whether the pneumatic rod leaks gas and whether there are cracks on the surface; for hydraulic chairs, confirm that there is no hydraulic oil leakage; for mechanical chairs, ensure that the adjustment structure is stable.
  4. Pay attention to additional functions: Some modern office chairs integrate health monitoring, waterproofing, or anti-tipping protection functions, which can be selected according to needs.
