The lift lever of an office chair is the core device for controlling the height adjustment of the seat, typically presented as a lever-type adjusting rod.

Working Principle

The office chair lift lever mainly relies on controlling the valve inside the gas spring (pneumatic rod) and uses high-pressure nitrogen to achieve stepless adjustment of the seat. The gas spring is a sealed cylinder filled with high-pressure nitrogen at a pressure of 10 - 20 atmospheres. The cross-sectional areas on both sides of the piston are different. Under the action of gas pressure, a thrust towards the side with the smaller cross-sectional area, that is, elastic force, is generated. When the adjusting rod is operated to open the valve, nitrogen can flow between the two ends of the piston, thereby pushing the piston rod to extend or retract, ultimately achieving the lifting and lowering of the seat.

Operation Methods

• Raising the Seat: The person needs to leave the seat and lift or pull the adjusting rod upwards. At this time, the seat will slowly rise under the action of the internal gas pressure. When it reaches the desired height, release the adjusting rod, and the seat will be locked at that height. This is because when the adjusting rod opens the valve, the nitrogen flow pushes the piston rod to extend, raising the seat. After releasing the adjusting rod, the valve closes, the gas pressure stabilizes, and the seat height is fixed.
• Lowering the Seat: The person should sit on the chair and lift or pull the adjusting rod upwards. With the help of the body's weight, the seat will slowly descend. After reaching the desired position, release the adjusting rod to lock the height. This is because when sitting on the chair, the body's weight increases the pressure on the seat. When the adjusting rod opens the valve, the nitrogen flow causes the piston rod to retract, lowering the seat. After releasing the adjusting rod, the valve closes, and the seat height is locked.
