Office Chair Lift Broken
If the lift of your office chair is broken, first determine the type of fault, then repair it accordingly. If the problem cannot be solved, contact a professional.

Damaged Pneumatic Rod
If the chair does not rebound when you sit down and slowly sinks without bouncing back, the pneumatic rod may be damaged. You can replace the pneumatic rod yourself for about 30 yuan, and it can be purchased independently online. When replacing, step on the bottom of the chair with both feet and shake it to lift it up. Use a wrench or hammer to knock out the pneumatic rod by hitting the circular area around it. Then purchase a new pneumatic rod of a similar size, install it on the base first, and then put the seat on top. Sit on it to press it tightly.
Displacement of Mechanical Linkage or Failure of Air Valve Needle
- Displacement of the Operating Handle: If the control handle detaches from the air valve needle inside the base and cannot trigger the switch, reverse the seat and check whether the end of the control handle can accurately touch the small metal dot (needle) at the top of the pneumatic rod. If it is misaligned, use a wrench to adjust the position of the fixing screws on the base.
- Increasing the Trigger Stroke: If the handle cannot touch the needle even when pressed all the way down, you can stick a small piece of hard gasket, such as a coin or a plastic piece, above the needle to compensate for the gap caused by wear.
- Lubrication and Cleaning: If excessive grease or dust accumulates inside the base, it may hinder the rebound of the needle. Spray a small amount of WD-40 or sewing machine oil into the gap of the needle and press the handle repeatedly several times until the needle can rebound smoothly.
Other Situations
Loss of pressure in the pneumatic rod (due to internal nitrogen leakage or aging of the seal ring, resulting in the inability to provide lifting support), air leakage, wear or aging of the seal ring, etc., may also cause lifting failures. If the pneumatic rod loses pressure or has air leakage, it may be necessary to replace the pneumatic rod. If the seal ring is worn or aged, the chair needs to be disassembled to replace the new seal ring. If the air rod leaks oil, sinks automatically and slowly after sitting down, or has cracks on the outer tube, the pneumatic rod must be scrapped. If none of the above methods can solve the problem, it is recommended to contact a professional maintenance technician for inspection and repair.
