Office Chair Legs Hanging in the Air
Admin October 10, 2026
Excessive height of office chairs causing legs to hang in the air can lead to issues such as lumbar spine health risks, decreased sitting posture stability, and imbalance in the body's interconnected system. These problems can be addressed by using footrests, adjusting sitting posture, choosing office chairs that fit one's body shape, and using chairs with height adjustment functions.

Problems Caused
- Lumbar Spine Health Risks: When legs are hanging in the air, the lower limbs lose support, and the body's center of gravity is entirely concentrated on the lumbosacral region. This significantly increases the pressure on the lumbar spine's forward flexion, potentially reaching twice the normal level. Muscles need to continuously compensate and remain tense to maintain body balance, leading to slower blood flow and accelerated loss of water from the intervertebral discs. Prolonged exposure to this state can easily cause lumbar spine deformation and degeneration, posing a serious threat to lumbar spine health.
- Decreased Sitting Posture Stability: Hanging legs force the pelvis to tilt backward, flattening or even reversing the natural curve of the lumbar spine. To maintain balance, the upper body unconsciously leans forward, forming an incorrect posture. Simultaneously, the muscles at the back of the thighs tighten, and the tension is transmitted upward, causing the pelvis to sway back and forth. This, in turn, leads to a hunched thoracic spine and a forward-stretched cervical spine, forming a "turtle neck" and seriously affecting sitting posture stability.
- Imbalance in the Body's Interconnected System: Hanging legs trigger subtle tension in muscles throughout the body, keeping the brain in a "state of alert" due to the lack of a support point. This prevents the muscles in the back, shoulders, and neck from relaxing. Over time, it can easily cause shoulder and neck pain and disrupt the balance of the body's interconnected system.
Solutions
- Use Footrests: Using a footrest allows the feet to rest firmly on the ground, providing effective support for the body, thereby reducing the burden on the lumbar spine and alleviating various problems caused by hanging legs.
- Adjust Sitting Posture: Keep the feet firmly on the ground, level the pelvis, and lean the back against the chair's backrest for support. Additionally, get up and move around every half hour to promote blood circulation and relieve muscle tension.
- Choose Office Chairs That Fit One's Body Shape: For example, ergonomic chairs designed for women often feature lower seat heights and adjustable lumbar supports, which can prevent the waist from hanging in the air and better conform to the body's curves.
- Use Chairs with Height Adjustment Functions: Such as the Wuqibao computer chair, which adjusts its height using a pneumatic rod to ensure that the soles of the feet are firmly on the ground, meeting the needs of people of different heights and effectively solving the problem of hanging legs.
