Types of Office Chair Legs

Admin October 09, 2026

There are mainly four common types of office chair legs on the market: five-star base, four-leg, bow-shaped, and high-leg.

Five-star base chair legs: This is currently the most common type of office chair legs on the market. It is characterized by five outward-extending legs that form a shape similar to a pentagram, hence the name. The design of the five-star base significantly increases the contact area of the office chair with the ground, providing better stability compared to other types of chair legs. It can keep the chair steady even on uneven surfaces. Additionally, five-star bases are usually equipped with universal wheels, allowing the chair to move easily in all directions and greatly enhancing office flexibility and efficiency. Due to these advantages, five-star base office chairs dominate the market.

Four-leg chair legs: Four-leg chair legs consist of four legs arranged in a rectangular or square pattern. This design is relatively simple and cost-effective, making it common in settings where high stability is not strictly required, such as home offices or small meeting rooms. However, compared to five-star bases, four-leg chairs have a smaller contact area with the ground and are slightly less stable, especially on uneven surfaces where they are prone to wobbling.

Bow-shaped chair legs: Bow-shaped chair legs have a unique design with legs that curve in an arc shape, often integrated with the seat and backrest. This design not only gives the chair a distinctive appearance but also enhances its structural strength to some extent. The stability of bow-shaped chair legs depends on their curvature and material. Generally, the greater the curvature and the sturdier the material, the better the stability. However, due to their relatively poor mobility, bow-shaped chair legs are usually more suitable for fixed positions.

High-leg chair legs: High-leg chair legs are typically used in settings that require a higher sitting position, such as bars or laboratories. Their longer legs increase the overall height of the chair, facilitating operations or communication at elevated positions. High-leg chair legs come in various designs. Some adopt a five-star base design for enhanced stability, while others use four-leg or bow-shaped designs to suit specific occasions.
