Office Chair Leg Stretching
Admin October 08, 2026
Performing leg-stretching exercises in an office setting or using a leg-stretching stool can effectively improve leg condition and relieve fatigue from prolonged sitting. Here are the specific methods:

I. Chair Leg-Stretching Exercises
- Basic Leg Stretch: While sitting in a chair, keep your back straight and slowly lift one leg until it forms a 90-degree angle with the ground. Point your toes upward and hold for 5-10 seconds, then slowly lower your leg. This exercise stimulates the quadriceps femoris on the front of the thigh through static contraction, improving muscle laxity. With long-term adherence, it can make your leg lines more toned.
- Dynamic Seated Leg Stretch: Extend both legs parallel to the ground, keep your toes pointed straight, and hold until your legs feel tired (about 30-60 seconds). Return to the original position and repeat 2-3 sets. This exercise accelerates fat metabolism through continuous exertion, making it suitable for quickly activating leg muscles after prolonged sitting and relieving swelling caused by poor blood circulation.
II. Scientific Use of Leg-Stretching Stools
- Office Configuration:
- Angle Adjustment: When the keyboard height is at a 90-degree bend with your elbows, adjust the tilt angle of the leg-stretching stool to about 15 degrees. This allows your legs and torso to form a natural transition, preventing excessive flexion or extension of the knee joints.
- Frequency of Use: Every 40 minutes when you get up to move around, perform two sets of toe-pointing exercises on the leg-stretching stool (holding each set for 10 seconds). This promotes venous blood return in the lower limbs through ankle dorsiflexion, reducing the risk of deep vein thrombosis.
- Home Optimization:
- Material Selection: Prioritize using a leg-stretching stool with memory foam material. Its slow rebound property can disperse leg pressure, preventing local compression that can lead to blood circulation disorders.
- Posture Adjustment: Place both legs flat on the stool surface and place a small cushion behind your waist to form a 135-degree angle between your body and thighs. This posture conforms to ergonomic principles, dispersing lumbar pressure and relieving fatigue in the lumbosacral region caused by prolonged sitting.
III. Precautions
- Keep your torso stable during leg-stretching exercises to avoid compensatory bending of the spine due to leg lifting.
- If you experience numbness or pain in your lower limbs while using a leg-stretching stool, immediately adjust the angle or stop using it. This may indicate that the stool height or tilt angle is not suitable for your body type.
- Leg-stretching training should only be used as an auxiliary method. It should be combined with regular standing activities (such as walking for 2 minutes every hour) and full-body exercises (such as squats and lunges) to comprehensively improve health issues caused by prolonged sitting.
