Office Chair Leg Squeezing
Admin October 11, 2026
Office chair leg squeezing is mainly related to unreasonable seat design and improper sitting posture, and can be improved by adjusting the seat and correcting the sitting posture.

Seat Design Issues
- Front Edge Design Flaws: If the front edge of an ordinary office chair lacks a downward curve or has insufficient foam padding, it can cause squeezing and friction on the inner side of the knees, potentially leading to pain or even leg numbness after prolonged use. For example, the hard edge of a seat directly contacting the soft tissues of the legs can affect blood circulation due to continuous pressure.
- Size Mismatch: When the height or depth of the seat does not match the user's body type, discomfort can easily arise. If the seat is too deep, the back of the thighs can be compressed, obstructing venous return; if the seat is too high, the feet cannot rest flat on the ground, and the legs hanging in the air can increase muscle strain.
Effects of Improper Sitting Posture
- Direct Pressure from Poor Posture: Sitting with crossed legs, legs curled up, or excessively stretched can cause muscle tension and poor blood flow in the legs, resulting in an uncomfortable feeling of having 'nowhere to put' the legs. For example, when sitting with crossed legs, one knee can be pressed by the other leg, potentially causing local numbness.
- Chain Reactions Worsening Discomfort: Prolonged poor sitting posture can also lead to pelvic tilt and spinal distortion, further compressing leg nerves or blood vessels. For example, pelvic retroversion can cause abnormal distribution of lumbar spine pressure, indirectly affecting blood circulation in the lower limbs.
Improvement Suggestions
- Adjust the Seat: Choose an ergonomic chair with a downward-curved front edge and high-density foam padding, or use cushions and adjust the seat height (so that the feet can rest flat on the ground) and depth (so that the thighs and calves form a 90ยฐ angle) to distribute pressure.
- Correct Sitting Posture: Keep the legs naturally apart, with the knees and hip joints at approximately 90ยฐ, and the soles of the feet flat on the ground or using a footrest. Avoid maintaining the same posture for long periods and adjust the sitting posture every 30 minutes.
- Intermittent Activity: Perform leg activities every 30-60 minutes, such as tiptoeing, leg lifting, or stretching the calf muscles, to promote blood circulation and relieve muscle stiffness.
- Optimize the Environment: Clear clutter around the legs to avoid knee collisions with the underside of the desk; choose a seat with greater depth to provide space for leg stretching and reduce pressure.
