Office Chair Leg Separation
Admin October 09, 2026
There are mainly two methods for separating the legs of an office chair: screw-fixed type and direct-insertion type. The specific operations are as follows:

Screw-Fixed Type Disassembly
This structure is commonly found in mid-to-high-end gaming chairs or adjustable office chairs. The connection points usually have exposed screw holes, and tools are required to loosen the screws before separating the components.
Operation Steps:
- Prepare Tools: Select the appropriate tools according to the screw type, such as a hex wrench (standard tool), Phillips/flat-head screwdrivers. If the screw is stripped, a pair of needle-nose pliers may be needed for assistance. Also, prepare auxiliary tools such as a rubber mallet, lubricant, and cleaning cloth.
- Loosen Screws: Use a screwdriver and wrench to check the screw positions and turn them counterclockwise to loosen. Some screws may need to be rotated in the opposite direction to loosen. Be careful with the force applied to avoid damaging the threads.
- Separate Components: After all screws are loosened, invert the chair base and gently tap the footrest components with a rubber mallet to gradually separate the connection points. Control the force when tapping to prevent damage to the footrest or the chair body due to excessive force.
Direct-Insertion Type Disassembly
This structure is more common in ordinary office chairs, where the metal rod of the chair leg is directly inserted into the holes of the five-star base. Some models are equipped with anti-detachment snap rings or quick-release interfaces.
Operation Steps:
- Basic Separation: Grasp the root of the chair leg and continuously shake it slightly from side to side while pulling it upwards. At the same time, gently tap the connection point with a rubber mallet to loosen the metal rod from the hole using vibration. If the connection is tight, lubricant can be used to reduce friction.
- Handle Snap Rings: If there is an anti-detachment snap ring at the metal connection point, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to grip the protruding end of the snap ring and remove it from the fixing groove, then repeat the basic separation steps.
- Quick-Release Interface: Some brands adopt a quick-release design. When disassembling, simply press the unlock button at the bottom of the chair leg to complete the separation directly without additional tools.
Precautions:
- Before disassembly, confirm the structure type of the chair to avoid using the wrong tools and causing damage.
- It is recommended to wear gloves during operation to prevent metal components from scratching fingers.
- If separation is difficult, check for rust or foreign objects at the connection point, clean them, and try again.
