Office Chair Leg Sawing
Sawing the legs of an office chair requires careful operation and can be carried out according to the following steps:

1. Determine the length to be sawed off
According to ergonomic standards, when sitting, both feet should be placed flat on the ground, and the thighs and calves should form an angle of approximately 90ยฐ. The standard seat height for adult chairs is usually between 400-500mm. You can use a ruler to measure the difference between the existing seat height and the target height to ensure that the adjustment meets human comfort. Mark a clear cutting line with a pencil at the same height on each chair leg. The marking line should be kept horizontal and at a consistent height from the ground to avoid chair wobbling due to height differences.
2. Choose the appropriate tools
- Wooden chair legs: It is recommended to use a handsaw or a table saw. A handsaw is flexible and suitable for ordinary users; a table saw, combined with an angle fence, can improve cutting accuracy and is suitable for woodworking enthusiasts. When sawing, the chair should be firmly fixed so that the leg to be sawed is suspended in the air, and the saw blade should start cutting close to the outer side of the marking line. If the sawing goes astray halfway, immediately retract the saw blade to the non-deviated position, adjust the direction, and start sawing again, keeping the saw blade aligned with the marking line.
- Metal chair legs (such as carbon steel): A saw blade specifically designed for metal (such as a hacksaw) must be used. Ordinary woodworking saw blades are prone to damage. After sawing, use sandpaper or a grinder to smooth the sawed edge, remove burrs, and apply anti-rust paint or spray an anti-rust agent to prevent metal oxidation and rusting.
3. Considerations for special materials
- Solid wood chair legs: If the end face is not treated after sawing short, it may crack due to internal stress in the wood. It is recommended to sand the end face until smooth and apply wood wax oil or varnish to seal the wood fibers and reduce the risk of cracking.
- Composite material chair legs (such as veneered or particleboard): When sawing, be careful to avoid the veneer peeling off due to overheating of the saw blade. You can reduce the sawing speed or operate intermittently. After sawing, use a matching touch-up pen to repair the edges.
4. Post-sawing treatment
The bottom of the sawed-short chair legs directly contacts the floor, which can easily scratch the ground and generate noise. You can install anti-slip and silent foot pads (made of rubber or silicone) by slipping them on or attaching them with adhesive. The foot pads can cushion impacts, prevent slipping, significantly reduce dragging noise, and protect the floor from wear.
Precautions: Before operation, ensure that the chair structure is stable to avoid overall damage caused by sawing; if you are not familiar with tool usage, it is recommended to seek professional help.
