Office Chair Leg Replacement

Admin October 17, 2026

The method for replacing office chair legs depends on the material and connection method of the chair legs. The specific operations are as follows:

I. Disassembly and Replacement of Five-Star Bases

  1. Conventional Connection
    If the five-star base is conventionally connected to the seat cushion, step on the five-star base frame with one foot, grasp both sides of the seat cushion with both hands, shake it left and right, and pull it upwards. Repeat this action until it is removed. If it does not loosen, try repeating the operation on the other two sides of the seat cushion.

  2. Flat Washer and Snap Ring Structure
    If there is a flat washer and snap ring at the bottom of the chair's central column, first use a tool (such as a screwdriver) to remove the snap ring, then pull out the old five-star base, replace it with a new one, and reinstall the snap ring.

  3. Tapered Press-Fit Structure
    If the connection between the five-star base and the steel column is tapered (without a snap ring), gently tap the edge of the five-star base with a hammer to separate it from the steel column using vibration, and then install the new base. Note: Pad a soft cloth when tapping to protect the surface of the steel column from damage.

  4. Plastic Five-Star Base
    If the broken part is made of PP plastic, due to the lack of a dedicated welding rod, you can use a high-power soldering iron to heat and melt both ends of the break and then bond them, or use PE adhesive. However, if the break is severely deformed, the bonding effect is limited, and it is recommended to directly replace it with a new five-star base.

II. Replacement of Other Types of Chair Legs

  1. Broken Wooden Chair Legs
    If the broken surface is flat, first clean the dust on theๆ–ญ้ข (broken surface), apply epoxy resin glue, and fix it with clamps for 24 hours. After it dries, sand the joint with sandpaper. If there are defects at the break, you can use the 'three-point reinforcement method':
  • Wrap an iron sheet around the periphery of the break and fix it with self-tapping screws;
  • Insert a long wood screw horizontally through the break;
  • Wrap a metal U-shaped fastener to enhance the load-bearing capacity.
  1. Broken Metal Chair Legs
  • Welding: If the break is intact, it can be repaired with an electric welding machine (requires professional operation);
  • Metal-specific AB Glue: Suitable for small breaks, apply and fix for 24 hours;
  • Metal Pipe Sleeve Reinforcement: Cut a 3cm diameter metal water pipe longitudinally, place it over the broken leg, and fix it with bolts. This is suitable for breaks at the part that contacts the ground.

Precautions: Before operating, confirm the structure of the chair to avoid secondary damage caused by forced disassembly; if you are unsure about the material or connection method, it is recommended to contact a professional repair technician.
