Office Chair Leg Repair

Admin October 11, 2026

The repair of a broken leg on an office chair requires selecting the appropriate method based on the type of breakage, as detailed below:

Damage or Detachment of the Universal Wheel

If the broken part is the universal wheel, first identify the type of wheel (threaded or pin-type). Removing the Old Wheel: For threaded wheels, unscrew it counterclockwise by hand or with a tool; for pin-type wheels, pinch the wheel and press it down while rotating it left and right to remove it using the elastic deformation of the snap ring. Installing the New Wheel: After ensuring the model matches, screw in the threaded wheel clockwise and tighten it, or insert the pin-type wheel vertically until you hear a 'click' (the snap ring is securely fastened).

Breakage or Detachment of the Five-Star Base

If the five-star base itself is broken, deformed, or detached from the central column, first remove the old base: Lay the chair on its side and observe the connection method. For flat washer snap ring fixed types, remove the snap ring and then extract the five-star base; for conical press-fit types, gently tap the connection with a rubber mallet to loosen it and then remove it. Replacing the New Base: Purchase a matching five-star base according to the chair model for installation.

General Breakage Situations

Preparation: Clean the broken surface (sandpaper can be used for wooden chairs), and select an adhesive (white glue, AB glue, 502 glue, or epoxy resin) or physical reinforcement material (plastic bottle, rope) based on the material.
Core Steps:

  • Precise Alignment and Temporary Fixation: Align the broken surfaces and secure them with tape or rope.
  • Bonding or Reinforcement:
    • Strong Adhesive Bonding: Apply the glue evenly (wood shavings can be used to fill wide cracks in wooden chairs), and apply pressure after joining and hold for 10-15 minutes (refer to the glue instructions).
    • Physical Reinforcement: For example, cut an empty cola bottle into a cylinder and place it over the broken area, then heat it to make it fit snugly.

Repair of Broken Legs on Solid Wood Office Chairs

  • Joint Connection: Drill holes at both ends of the broken leg, fill with stone glue and insert a steel rod for traction, align and join the pieces, and let it dry for 1 minute.
  • Surface Repair and Sanding: Remove excess stone glue, use coarse sandpaper to initially sand and restore the contour, then use 502 glue with wood shavings to fill defects, sand with fine sandpaper, apply 502 glue again, and finally polish with 400-600 grit sandpaper.
  • Color Matching and Painting: Mix yellow and white to test the color, apply the color while adjusting, and make multiple corrections until the color matches. If covering wood grain, the repair area can be enlarged.
  • Wood Grain Treatment: Use color powder to mix the pattern color, apply the color until satisfied, and avoid enlarging the repair area when repairing precious wood.
