Office Chair Leg Repair

Admin October 10, 2026

The core of office chair leg repair is to restore support and ensure structural stability, with options for adhesion, reinforcement, or replacement depending on the material.

If the fracture surface is flat and the chair is made of wood, epoxy resin adhesive (such as King Kong Glue, with a 1:1 ratio and fast curing speed) is recommended. First, clean the dust from the fracture surface, apply the adhesive evenly, and then secure it with clamps for 24 hours. After it is completely dry, sand the joint until smooth. If there are defects at the fracture site or additional load-bearing capacity is needed, the "three-point reinforcement method" can be used:

  1. Wrap with an iron sheet on the outside: Use self-tapping screws to penetrate the iron sheet and fix it to the chair leg, forming external support;
  2. Insert long wood screws: Pass them horizontally through the inside of the fracture surface to increase structural connection strength;
  3. Wrap with metal U-shaped brackets: Further constrain the fracture site to prevent secondary cracking.

For completely fractured parts that touch the ground, the metal pipe sleeve reinforcement method is more suitable: Cut a water pipe with a diameter of 3 cm lengthwise, place it over the broken leg, and secure it with bolts. This method not only hides the damage but also forms a metal protective layer, making it especially suitable for frequently moved office chairs.

If the fracture is made of metal, welding or metal-specific AB glue is preferred. Under non-professional tool conditions, as an emergency measure, wrap the fracture site with an old belt and secure it with a nail gun to form a "corset-style" reinforcement; or roll up a magazine into a tube and place it over the fracture site, then wrap it repeatedly with wide tape. Although not aesthetically pleasing, it can temporarily restore functionality.

After repair, surface treatment is required: fill the gaps with wood flour and compact it, pour in 502 glue, and then sand it smooth with coarse and then fine sandpaper, and finally apply a matching paint. For light-colored furniture, no primer is needed; simply use the prepared topcoat to dot the wound and gradually blend it outward. For dark-colored furniture, apply a primer first and then the topcoat.

If the damage is too severe or located at a critical load-bearing point (such as the connection between the chair leg and the crossbeam), it is recommended to directly replace it with a chair leg of the same specification. Most furniture stores offer custom part services. When replacing, ensure that the new chair leg matches the original structure to avoid secondary damage caused by size discrepancies.
