Office Chair Leg Removal
The method for removing office chair legs should be selected based on their fixing method. Here are the common types and steps:

I. Screw-Fixed Removal
If there are exposed screw holes at the connection between the chair legs and the base, the following steps are usually taken:
- Tool Preparation: Use theๆ ้ (standard-equipped) hex wrench (for internal hex screws) or a Phillips/flat-head screwdriver (depending on the screw type). If the screw slips, you can use needle-nose pliers to hold the screw head steady for removal.
- Operation Process: Align the tool with the screw hole and rotate it counterclockwise to loosen. For example, the footrests of the Sihoo C series C300/C500 are fixed with three screws, which need to be removed one by one to complete the separation.
- Precautions: Before removal, check if the screws are covered with paint or glue. If so, clean the surface first. If the screws are severely rusted, spray a loosening agent before operating.
II. Direct-Insertion Structure Removal
This type of structure is commonly found in ordinary office chairs, where the metal rod of the chair legs is directly inserted into the holes of the five-star base. The specific method varies slightly depending on the design:
- Basic Shaking and Lifting Method:
- Step on the five-star base with one foot to keep it stable, and hold both sides of the seat cushion with both hands. Continuously shake it slightly from side to side and lift it upwards.
- If it doesn't loosen, change the gripping position (such as the front or back of the seat cushion) and repeat the operation, using the lever principle to gradually separate the interface.
- Tool-Assisted Method:
- If there is a retaining clip at the metal interface to prevent detachment, use needle-nose pliers to grip the protruding end of the clip and pull it outwards, then lift the chair legs as described above.
- For a conical connection design without a retaining clip, turn the chair upside down and check if there is a flat washer retaining clip at the bottom of the central column. If so, use a tool to remove the flat washer and then pull out the old chair legs. If not, gently tap the connection between the central column and the chair legs with a rubber mallet until it loosens and then separate.
- Advanced Techniques:
- When lifting or tapping, you can heat the interface with a hot air blower (pay attention to temperature control) to make the metal easier to separate due to thermal expansion and contraction.
- If the chair legs and the central column are stuck, you can drip a small amount of lubricating oil into the connection and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before operating.
Operation Tips: It is recommended to take a photo of the original state of the chair legs before removal for reference during subsequent installation. If the chair legs are severely aged, it is advisable to replace them directly with new parts to avoid structural damage caused by repeated removal.
