Office Chair Leg Production

Admin October 16, 2026

The production methods of office chair legs can be divided into four types based on different materials and processes: factory assembly line production, DIY repair and modification, wood-turning process production, and mass production of metal chair legs.

Factory assembly line production is the primary method of industrial production. Taking the Jiran factory in Michigan as an example, the process starts with part screening, where workers need to accurately match the required components from over 200 types of parts. During assembly, an inverted fixture is used to position the base, and a pneumatic press is employed to press the casters into the leg posts to ensure connection strength. Subsequently, the pneumatic cylinder for height adjustment is installed, and a dedicated machine is used to fix the pneumatic cylinder with the tilting device, forming a support structure that can be adjusted back and forth. This process emphasizes standardization and efficiency and is suitable for large-scale production.

DIY repair and modification offer a low-cost solution for damaged chair legs. For example, when the rubber sleeve ages, it can be softened by soaking in hot water and then removed to take out the broken elastic cord knot inside. Replacing it with a copper tube that is 23 centimeters long and has an outer diameter of 14 millimeters can enhance structural stability. Reinstall the rubber sleeve and flatten it to restore use. This method requires simple tools (such as needle-nose pliers and a hot water container) and is suitable for emergency repairs in home settings.

Wood-turning process production is mostly used for wooden chair legs in American or European furniture. The core of the process is to fix the wood between the front and rear centers of the lathe. First, use a bevel-edged turning tool to mark the end line of the round joint and machine a V-shaped groove. Then, use a half-round roughing tool to turn out the cylindrical prototype. After marking the decorative detail lines with a template, use tools such as a parting tool and a fingernail-shaped detail tool to gradually carve decorative structures such as arches, thin strips, and hemispheres. Finally, sand the surface to achieve a smooth finish. This process requires high-quality wood (such as hardwood) and precise lathe operation.

Mass production of metal chair legs is represented by aluminum alloy five-star bases and wrought iron square tube legs. The production process includes custom processing of wrought iron round or square tubes and treating the surface with processes such as baking paint and electroplating to enhance corrosion resistance. Some products support size customization to fit different chair types, such as adjusting the arm length of the five-star base or the cross-sectional size of the square tube. Metal materials have become the mainstream choice for modern office chair legs due to their high strength and long service life.
