Office Chair Leg Polishing

Admin October 12, 2026

Polishing office chair legs requires selecting appropriate methods based on the material and following standardized procedures to ensure polishing effectiveness and safety.

I. Preliminary Preparation and Cleaning

Regardless of whether the chair legs are made of wood, metal, or leather/plastic, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned before polishing. Wipe the chair legs with a damp, wrung-out cloth to remove dust, oil stains, old, cracked coatings, and loose burrs, paying special attention to impurities in crevices and corners. After cleaning, the chair legs should be placed in a well-ventilated area to dry completely, avoiding residual moisture or impurities that could scratch the workpiece or clog the sandpaper during polishing.

II. Tool and Sandpaper Selection

  • Wooden Chair Legs: Polish in three stages. First, use 80-120 grit coarse sandpaper to remove old paint layers or raised burrs; then, use 240-320 grit medium sandpaper to smooth out coarse polishing marks; finally, use 400-600 grit fine sandpaper for fine polishing to ensure a smooth surface.
  • Metal Chair Legs: First, use a wire brush to remove rust, then switch to fine sandpaper for polishing to restore the metal's luster.
  • Leather or Plastic Chair Legs: Use soft sandpaper along with a special polishing compound to avoid scratching the surface.

III. Area-Specific Polishing Techniques

  • Chair Surface: For wooden chair legs, polish along the wood grain with even pressure to avoid leaving polishing marks; for metal or plastic chair legs, pay attention to surface flatness.
  • Curved Areas: For armrests, chair leg corners, etc., roll the sandpaper into a small tube to facilitate polishing crevices and corners.
  • Narrow Areas: For screw holes, joints, etc., gently polish with fine sandpaper to avoid excessive polishing that could widen gaps or deform the structure.

IV. Final Treatment and Protection

  • Wooden Chair Legs: After polishing, wipe off the dust with a clean, soft cloth and apply a thin layer of wood wax oil or varnish to prevent wear and brighten the color.
  • Metal Chair Legs: After polishing, wipe off the rust residue and apply a layer of anti-rust oil to restore the luster and prevent further rusting.
  • Safety Protection: Wear a dust mask throughout the polishing process and maintain indoor ventilation to avoid inhaling dust. After polishing, wipe off the dust with a dry cloth and check that all areas are smooth, paying special attention to the chair legs and connection crevices.
