Office Chair Leg Modification
Office chair leg modification can be carried out using the following methods based on different needs:

1. Install adjustable foot pins If the chair wobbles due to an uneven floor or structural issues, adjustable foot pins can be installed on wooden legs (with a diameter of โฅ3cm, made of solid wood or density board). The foot pins are fixed using threads or expansion rubber plugs, and there are two installation methods:
- Drilling and fixing: Pre-drill holes at the bottom of the wooden legs and screw in the foot pins. This method is suitable for scenarios requiring high stability.
- Direct screwing: Some foot pins are designed to be self-tapping and can be directly screwed into the wooden legs, making the operation more convenient. This method allows for fine height adjustments to adapt to different floors and is cost-effective, making it suitable for daily use.
2. Deal with chair legs that are higher at the front and lower at the back If the chair legs are higher at the front and lower at the back due to wear or design flaws, the adjustment method should be selected based on the material:
- Wooden chair legs: The preferred method is to shorten the back legs. Use a plane or sandpaper to evenly sand the bottom end of the back legs. Each sanding should not exceed a thickness of 2mm, and repeatedly test the balance to avoid over-sanding and damaging the structure.
- Metal or non-modifiable chair legs: Rubber pads, wooden pieces, or special leveling foot pads can be pasted at the bottom of the front legs, and the height can be adjusted by stacking them layer by layer. If the tilt is severe and the structure allows, it is recommended to replace the entire set of chair legs to ensure safety and stability.
3. Modify into chair legs with special functions For specific needs (such as increasing mobility or comfort), you can refer to the modification case of the second-row seats of the Wuling Kaijie and achieve functional upgrades by adding components:
- Adding casters: Install casters with brakes at the bottom of the chair legs to improve mobility, which is suitable for scenarios requiring frequent position adjustments.
- Adding leg rests: Extend a bracket at the front end of the chair legs and fix a leg rest to provide leg support and relieve fatigue from prolonged sitting. Note: Such modifications should ensure structural safety, avoid damaging the original load-bearing design, and comply with relevant safety standards (such as furniture stability tests). If electrical components are involved, reserve power outlets and ensure proper insulation.
Assessment before modification:
- Whether the chair material and structure support modification;
- The compatibility of the modification components (such as the diameter of the foot pins and the load-bearing capacity of the casters);
- The difficulty of operation and tool requirements (such as an electric drill for drilling and sandpaper for shortening). If you lack experience, it is recommended to contact professional maintenance personnel or refer to the official modification guide to avoid safety hazards caused by improper operation.
