Office Chair Leg Heightening

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair leg heightening can be achieved through the following methods, and the appropriate solution should be selected based on the chair type and requirements:

  1. Using dedicated heightening accessories

    • Heightening pads/foot pads: Choose products made of non-slip and wear-resistant rubber, plastic, or metal materials. Directly place them on or stick them to the bottom of the chair legs. Ordinary heightening pads can raise the height by 2-5 centimeters, and some thicker models can reach 8-12 centimeters, suitable for short-term or temporary heightening needs.
    • Heightening legs: Purchase dedicated heightening legs made of metal or plastic and install them directly at the bottom of the chair. These accessories usually have a fixed structure, so ensure they are installed firmly to avoid slipping or falling off.
  2. Adjusting the chair's original device

    • Pneumatic office chairs: Operate using the height adjustment handle below the seat. Leave the seat or slightly lift your body, pull the handle upward and gently lift the seat cushion to raise the height using the elasticity of the pneumatic rod; the handle will automatically lock when released. If you are relatively light in weight, you can stand and pull up the seat cushion to assist in the adjustment.
    • Screw-type office chairs: Rotate the knob at the bottom of the pneumatic rod or support rod counterclockwise to raise the height and clockwise to fix it. Keep the seat cushion stable during adjustment to avoid damaging the components due to excessive force.
  3. Modifying with auxiliary tools (for non-adjustable chairs)

    • Adding foot pads: Choose metal or plastic foot pads with non-slip designs and place them at the bottom of the chair legs to increase the height by 5-15 centimeters. Ensure that the foot pads match the size of the chair legs to avoid wobbling.
    • Replacing with longer pneumatic rods: If the original pneumatic rod is damaged or has insufficient travel, measure the diameter and length of the pneumatic rod and purchase a longer model of the same type. Use tools when disassembling the base and pay attention to safe operation to avoid the sudden ejection of the pneumatic rod.
  4. DIY simple solutions

    • Fabric heightening: Cut thick fabric into the shape of the chair feet and stick it to the bottom. This method is low-cost but has poor durability and is suitable for temporary use.
    • Object heightening: Use waste plastic bottles (such as Maidong bottles), cut off the tops and bottoms, and place them under the chair legs. This is environmentally friendly and economical. However, control the height (it is recommended not to exceed 5 centimeters) to avoid affecting sitting comfort.

Precautions:

  • Before adjusting, check if the chair functions normally. If it cannot be raised, it may be due to air leakage in the pneumatic rod, a stuck handle, or a rusty knob. You can spray lubricant and try repeatedly; if it still doesn't work, contact a professional repair person to replace the accessories.
  • After adjustment, ensure that your feet are flat on the ground, your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle, and your elbows are level with the tabletop to maintain a correct sitting posture and reduce fatigue from prolonged sitting.
  • Disassembling the pneumatic rod by yourself poses a safety risk, and non-professionals should not attempt it.
