Office Chair Leg Detachment Repair

Admin October 19, 2026

The repair of a detached office chair leg requires selecting the appropriate method based on the material (wood, plastic, or metal). The specific steps are as follows:

I. Quick Fix

  1. Clean the Joint: Use a dry cloth to wipe away wood shavings, glue residue, or dust from the connection between the chair leg and the seat, ensuring a flat and debris-free surface. If there are burrs or debris at the joint, lightly sand them with sandpaper to avoid affecting the subsequent bonding effect.
  2. Temporary Fix: If there is no obvious breakage or deformation at the joint, align the chair leg with its original position and secure it using woodworking clamps (suitable for wooden or plastic chair legs) or a rope (tightly tied) to prevent the chair leg from shifting during the repair process. Note: After temporary fixation, only light sitting (weight not exceeding 5kg) is allowed to avoid secondary detachment caused by vigorous shaking.

II. Basic Repair

  1. Select Glue:
    • Wooden Chair Legs: Prioritize woodworking glue or white glue. These glues are waterproof and temperature-resistant, with strong adhesive force after curing, suitable for long-term use.
    • Plastic Chair Legs: Use PVC-specific glue and avoid quick-drying glues like 502 (which are prone to brittleness). If the joint is smooth plastic, sand it first to increase friction.
    • Metal Chair Legs: If the welding point is cracked, professional welding repair is required; if the screws are loose, simply tighten them without using glue.
  2. Apply Glue and Fix:
    • Apply glue evenly to the chair leg joint and the seat hole (do not overapply to avoid overflow and surface contamination), align them, and press firmly for 10 seconds to ensure no gaps.
    • Secure with clamps and let it sit for 8-12 hours (for wooden/plastic chair legs) until the glue is fully cured before use. Key Point: Keep the chair leg vertical during curing to avoid tilting under pressure.

III. Reinforcement Upgrade (for Frequent Loosening)

  1. Wooden Chair Legs:
    • Drill two small holes with a diameter of 2-3mm diagonally at the connection (depth not exceeding half the thickness of the chair leg), insert wood screws or metal screws to enhance mechanical fixation.
    • The screw length should match the thickness of the chair leg to avoid penetrating the seat.
  2. Plastic Chair Legs:
    • Apply carbon fiber tape or strong double-sided tape at the joint to increase friction and prevent sliding.
    • If the joint is already cracked, first glue it with PVC glue and then reinforce it with tape.
  3. Daily Maintenance: Gently shake the chair leg monthly to check stability. If loosening is found, promptly reapply glue or tighten the screws to avoid breakage caused by long-term uneven stress.

Special Reminder for Metal Chair Legs: If the welding point is cracked, do not attempt to repair it with glue yourself. Contact a professional for welding repair to prevent electric shock or insufficient structural strength.
