Color Change of Office Chair Legs
The color of office chair legs can be changed through methods such as spray painting and brush painting. The specific steps and precautions are as follows:

Before changing the color, it is necessary to clarify the compatibility between the target color and the material. If the chair legs are made of metal, self-spray paint is recommended. For example, painting the metal legs white is convenient and provides even coverage. If they are made of solid wood, color adjustment can be achieved through brush painting, such as changing from light walnut to dark walnut. Special wood paint should be selected to avoid cracking or fading. When choosing colors, personal aesthetics and the style of the space should be considered. For example, light colors are suitable for Nordic style, and dark colors are suitable for industrial style.
The color-changing steps should be carried out in stages:
Surface pretreatment:
- For metal legs, sand them with sandpaper (240 - 400 grit is recommended) until the surface is rough to enhance the adhesion of the paint. For solid wood legs, first fill any holes or cracks and then sand them along the wood grain until smooth.
- Clean the surface dust. You can wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry naturally to avoid the influence of residual oil or moisture on the paint quality.
Primer treatment (required for solid wood materials):
- For solid wood legs, apply 1 - 2 coats of sealing primer first to prevent uneven paint absorption by the wood, which can cause color differences, and also to enhance the adhesion of the paint layers.
- If the metal legs are rusty, treat them with anti-rust paint first and then spray the topcoat.
Topcoat application:
- Spray painting (for metal/smooth surfaces): Keep the spray can 20 - 30 cm away from the chair legs and spray evenly in 2 - 3 coats, with an interval of 10 - 15 minutes between each coat to avoid runs.
- Brush painting (for solid wood/complex shapes): Use a wool brush and apply thin coats in multiple layers along the grain direction. After each coat dries, lightly sand it with sandpaper to improve the smoothness of the paint surface.
Drying and protection:
- Complete drying takes 24 - 48 hours. Avoid touching or stacking items during this period.
- After drying, you can apply a clear coat or wax to enhance wear resistance and gloss.
Precautions:
- Wear a mask and gloves during operation and work in a well-ventilated environment to avoid inhaling paint fumes.
- After changing the color of metal legs, check the uniformity of the paint layer. For solid wood legs, pay attention to the ambient humidity (it is recommended to keep the humidity between 40% - 60%) to prevent wood deformation.
- If you need to keep the original color and change the color locally, use masking tape to cover the areas that do not need treatment to ensure neat edges.
