Office Chair Leg Broken

Admin October 22, 2026

The approach to fixing a broken office chair leg depends on the specific nature of the damage. Here are repair methods for different types of damage:

If it's a broken leg of a solid wood chair, first clear away any excess wood shavings at the joint to ensure a flat and clean bonding surface. Apply a 1:1 ratio of epoxy glue evenly to the broken area and use a staple gun (or a similar tool) to secure it from multiple angles, ensuring the broken parts fit tightly together. After the glue has partially cured, fill the gaps with wood flour and press it down firmly. Then, pour in 502 glue to strengthen the structure. Once fully dry, sand the surface to make it smooth. Finally, adjust the color according to the original wood tone, apply paint, and draw textures consistent with the overall look to restore the chair's appearance.

If the chair leg is damaged and causing the chair to wobble, first determine the specific cause. For wooden chairs, common reasons include one leg being shorter, excessive wear on the joints, changes in temperature and humidity leading to loose screws or worn wood glue, or damaged or missing parts. When repairing, if the leg lengths are uneven, install furniture nails at the bottom of the short leg to adjust the height. If the screws are loose, turn the chair upside down, remove the screws securing the legs, clean away the old glue or worn areas, and then reinstall them. If the joints are severely worn, disassemble the chair, apply glue to reinforce the worn parts or replace the parts. For sofa chairs, remove the screws to separate the seat cushion, clean away the old glue, and then reapply glue and reinstall.

If the wheels of an office swivel chair are damaged, handle them according to the wheel type. For snap-ring wheels, simply pull the wheel outwards, being careful not to just pull out the plastic wheel and leave the fixing iron rod in the footrest. If the iron rod remains, use pliers to grip the end of the iron rod and pull it out slowly. For threaded wheels, hold the wheel and turn it to the left to remove it. Replace it with a new wheel and tighten it in the opposite direction.

In addition, if the chair is broken due to long-term natural wear and tear, it is advisable to replace it with new office furniture to ensure the safety and comfort of employees. If the damage is caused by human vandalism or other non-natural reasons, deal with it promptly and find out the cause to prevent similar problems from happening again. Note that in some cultures, a broken chair is considered unlucky, but such beliefs lack scientific basis and should not be over-interpreted.
