Office Chair Leg Breakage

Admin October 09, 2026

Depending on the specific situation, options for dealing with an office chair leg breakage include replacing the caster wheels, replacing the entire five-star chair base, or performing simple repairs. It is necessary to assess the repair value before proceeding.

Replacing Damaged Caster Wheels

If only one caster wheel is not rotating, damaged, or has fallen off, it can be replaced. First, identify the type of wheel. Threaded wheels have a threaded rod at the top, while pin-type wheels have a metal pin at the top. During disassembly, for threaded wheels, turn them counterclockwise by hand or with the aid of a tool to unscrew them; for pin-type wheels, hold the wheel with both hands (or use pliers), press down and rotate left and right, using the elastic deformation to release the retaining spring and then pull it out. When installing new wheels, ensure that the model, size, and load-bearing capacity match those of the old wheels. For threaded wheels, screw the new wheel in clockwise and tighten it; for pin-type wheels, align the pin with the hole in the chair base and insert it vertically with force until a "click" sound indicates that the retaining spring is securely in place.

Replacing the Entire Five-Star Chair Base

When the five-star base itself is broken, severely deformed, or has detached from the central column, it needs to be replaced as a whole. First, place the chair on its side or upside down on a soft pad and observe the connection method. There are two common connection methods. One is secured with a flat washer and retaining spring; find and remove the retaining spring to extract the five-star base. The other is a conical press fit without a retaining spring; use a rubber mallet to gently tap the connection to loosen it and then remove it.

Simple Repairs

If the breakage is not complex, simple repairs can be carried out. Preparation work: Find a stable, well-lit work surface, place the chair properly, clear away surrounding clutter, clean the broken edges, and prepare adhesives or physical reinforcement materials according to the chair's material. Core steps: First, precisely align and temporarily fix the broken parts by aligning them and temporarily binding them with tape or rope. Second, perform the core adhesion or reinforcement. For the strong adhesive adhesion method, select the appropriate adhesive according to the chair's material, apply it evenly, quickly splice the parts, and apply pressure for at least 10 - 15 minutes. If there is no suitable adhesive or additional reinforcement is needed, physical reinforcement methods such as simple wrapping can be used.

In addition, five-star bases of different materials have different load-bearing capacities and safety levels. It is necessary to make a preliminary assessment of the repair value before proceeding with repairs.
