Assembly and Disassembly of Office Chair Legs
Admin October 14, 2026
The assembly and disassembly of office chair legs should be carried out step by step according to specifications. The specific methods are as follows:

I. Assembly Steps
- Assembly of Casters and Chair Legs
Align each caster with the mounting hole of the chair leg (star-shaped leg) and press it vertically until it is fully engaged, ensuring that each caster is firmly installed. After installation, check that the casters rotate smoothly to avoid detachment during use due to improper installation. - Connection of the Pneumatic Rod and Chair Leg
Invert the assembled chair leg and vertically insert the pneumatic rod into the central hole of the chair leg, ensuring that the bottom of the pneumatic rod is fully in contact with the chair leg. Some pneumatic rods need to be rotated to a specific angle to be locked, which should be adjusted according to the product instructions.
II. Disassembly Steps
- Separation of the Chair Seat and Pneumatic Rod
- Raise the pneumatic rod to its highest position to increase the operating space.
- Hold the chair seat firmly with one hand and press the lifting lever of the pneumatic rod with the other hand while shaking the chair seat back and forth several times to use inertia to separate the chair seat from the pneumatic rod. If the connection is too tight, repeat the shaking action or gently pat the edge of the chair seat to assist in separation.
- Separation of the Pneumatic Rod and Chair Leg
- Method 1: Tapping Method
Invert the chair leg and directly tap the top of the pneumatic rod with a rubber mallet (if a rubber mallet is not available, place a wooden board between the pneumatic rod and a hard object and then tap the wooden board). The tapping force should be moderate to avoid damaging the pneumatic rod or the chair leg. - Method 2: Snap Ring Removal Method
If there is a flat washer snap ring at the bottom of the central column of the pneumatic rod, use needle-nose pliers or a screwdriver to remove the snap ring first, and then vertically pull out the star-shaped leg. This method is suitable for structures fixed by snap rings. - Method 3: Tapered Connection Handling
If the star-shaped leg and the steel column are connected by a taper (without a snap ring), gently tap the edge of the star-shaped leg with a hammer to gradually loosen it from the steel column and then remove it. When tapping, apply force symmetrically to prevent deformation of the chair leg.
- Method 1: Tapping Method
- Auxiliary Disassembly Techniques
- Place the chair leg flat on the ground, step on the star-shaped leg frame with your foot to fix it, and hold both sides of the chair seat with your hands, shake it back and forth and lift it up. Repeat the operation until the chair leg is separated from the pneumatic rod. This method is suitable for cases where the connection is tight.
- If there is residual gas inside the pneumatic rod, lower the pneumatic rod to its lowest position before disassembly to release the internal pressure and avoid injury caused by sudden gas ejection during disassembly.
III. Safety Precautions
- Wear gloves during disassembly to prevent metal parts from scratching your fingers.
- Use special tools (such as a rubber mallet) for tapping operations to avoid directly tapping with a metal hammer, which may damage the parts.
- If the connection between the chair leg and the pneumatic rod is too tight, do not forcefully pull it. Refer to the above methods to gradually loosen it or contact a professional for handling.
- After disassembly, check whether each part is intact. If any part is damaged, replace it in a timely manner to avoid affecting the safety of use after reinstallation.
