Office Chair Left-Right Sway
The left-right sway of an office chair may be caused by design, material, usage and maintenance, or differences in product quality, and can be resolved by tightening screws, replacing parts, or choosing high-end products.

From a design perspective, the base and wheels of a computer chair are designed to allow users to move and rotate easily, including swaying left and right, which is intended to provide convenience; the elastic structure of the backrest and seat cushion may also produce slight swaying due to cushioning needs, which is a normal phenomenon. However, if the swaying amplitude is too large, other causes need to be investigated.
In terms of materials, some office chairs use plastic or lightweight metal frames, which may be weaker in strength compared to steel or aluminum alloy structures, especially after long-term weight-bearing, leading to deformation and reduced stability. For example, plastic bases may soften in high-temperature environments, exacerbating the swaying problem.
Usage and maintenance conditions are common triggers. If the wheels wear unevenly or the ground is tilted or uneven, the chair will sway left and right due to uneven force distribution; after long-term use, screws, gas cylinders, or connectors may become loose and require regular inspection and tightening. Specific operations include using a screwdriver or wrench to tighten all visible screws and spraying lubricant on the threads to prevent rust; if the gas cylinder leaks or has stuck lifting and lowering, it needs to be replaced with a new one that meets safety standards; if the base is deformed or components are worn, the bottom cover needs to be removed to inspect the internal structure and replace damaged casters, brackets, or five-star bases.
Differences in product quality are also crucial. Low-end products may have rough manufacturing processes and use inferior materials, resulting in insufficient structural stability. For example, problems such as false welding at welding points and substandard wall thickness of gas cylinders can all cause swaying. It is recommended to choose products that have passed international safety certifications such as BIFMA, as these chairs are more reliable in terms of load-bearing tests and material durability.
High-end office chairs can reduce swaying through innovative designs. Taking the Yongyi Flow550T as an example, it adopts a Tai Chi Follow-up Lumbar Support System, which dynamically fits the human spine curve, disperses pressure, and limits unnecessary swaying; some models are also equipped with thickened steel frames, explosion-proof gas cylinders, and widened five-star bases to enhance stability structurally. If the budget allows, such products can significantly improve the sitting experience.
