Office Chair Left and Right Levers

Admin October 14, 2026

The main functions of the left and right levers on an office chair include adjusting the seat height, adjusting the recline angle of the backrest, and in some cases, integrating the recline adjustment function.

Adjusting Seat Height: The most basic and common function of the left and right levers on an office chair is to adjust the seat height. Typically, a lever is located on the left or right side of the office chair, usually positioned directly below the front edge of the seat cushion or on the side. When adjusting the seat height, the user should first sit down and then pull up the lever, causing the seat to rise or fall naturally under the action of the gas lift. During adjustment, ensure that both feet can rest flat on the ground, with the thighs parallel to the ground, knees slightly lower than the hips, and the elbows aligned with the height of the desk when the arms are hanging naturally. This sitting posture helps reduce physical fatigue and improve work efficiency. Once the seat is adjusted to the appropriate height, release the lever to lock the seat height in place.

Adjusting Backrest Recline Angle: For office chairs with a recline function, the side levers also play a crucial role in adjusting the recline angle of the backrest. When the user wants to recline and rest, simply pull the side lever outward, and the backrest will tilt backward. The user can adjust the recline angle according to their needs. Once the desired position is reached, push the lever inward to keep the backrest in that position, providing a comfortable resting posture.

Integrated Recline Adjustment Function in Some Cases: In some office chairs, the recline adjustment function may be integrated with or adjacent to the seat height adjustment lever. The operation methods of these levers may vary, with some being toggle-type and others being push-down type. When adjusting the recline, the user can try pushing down or pulling back the adjustment lever while leaning back to feel the tilt of the backrest. Once the appropriate angle is reached, release the adjustment lever, and the backrest may automatically lock in place at that angle; for some models, the adjustment lever needs to be reset to lock the angle.
