Office Chair Left Adjustment

Admin October 13, 2026

The left-side adjustment of an office chair typically involves adjusting the backrest angle or recline resistance, depending on the type of adjustment system. Here are common adjustment mechanisms and their operating steps:

1. Lever Adjustment System
If the chair uses a lever to control the backrest angle, the adjustment handle may be located on the left or right side of the seat. First, locate the lever, which is usually made of black plastic or metal. Some high-end models have an independent recline lock switch located beneath the seat. The adjustment steps are as follows:

  • Unlock: Pull up or push the lever, allowing the backrest to move freely.
  • Adjust the Angle: Slowly lean back to a comfortable position, avoiding sudden force that could cause the gas cylinder to lose control.
  • Lock the Position: Operate the lever again (e.g., press down or push back) to secure the backrest angle.
Note: If the chair is equipped with an independent recline lock (such as some ergonomic chairs), you need to pull up the switch beneath the seat to unlock it before adjusting the angle.

2. Knob Adjustment System
Some chairs control recline resistance or angle with a knob, usually located near the center of the underside of the seat, close to the support column. There are two types of adjustments:

  • Resistance Adjustment: Turn the knob clockwise to increase recline resistance (suitable for heavier individuals) and counterclockwise to decrease it (suitable for lighter individuals). Fine-tune multiple times in combination with your body weight to achieve balance.
  • Angle Adjustment: Some models have a separate knob to control the recline range. Refer to the instruction manual to determine the rotation direction (usually clockwise to reduce the angle range and counterclockwise to expand it).
Note: Mechanical knobs should be regularly checked for looseness to prevent adjustment failure due to wear after long-term use.

3. Pneumatic Adjustment System
Chairs controlled by a pneumatic rod achieve quick adjustment by pulling the lever beneath the seat. The operating steps are as follows:

  • Recline Adjustment: Pull the lever, then apply back pressure to recline the backrest to the desired angle. Release the lever to lock it automatically.
  • Reset Operation: Pull the lever again, and the backrest will spring back to an upright position.
Note: Maintain body balance during adjustment to avoid imbalance due to the fast response speed of the gas cylinder. For leather seats, prolonged large-angle reclining may accelerate material aging, so it is advisable to control the recline frequency.

General Precautions

  • Before adjustment, check that the gas cylinder, knob, or lever is intact to avoid using damaged components.
  • For the first adjustment, start with a small range and gradually expand the angle or resistance range after getting used to it.
  • If the chair model is special, check the label on the bottom or the brand's instruction manual for precise operating guidelines.
