Types of Office Chair Leather
Office chair leather mainly falls into three categories: genuine leather, ordinary PU or PVC leather, and microfiber leather. Here is a detailed introduction to these three types of leather:

Genuine Leather: Genuine leather is the best choice in terms of texture for office chair leather. It is derived from natural animal hides, featuring unique textures and a soft touch, providing a high-end and comfortable sitting experience. However, genuine leather also has some obvious drawbacks. Its price is relatively high, primarily due to the scarcity of raw materials and the complexity of the processing techniques. Additionally, genuine leather has stringent requirements for its usage environment, being sensitive to water and sunlight. Moisture can cause the leather to harden and develop mold, while ultraviolet rays from sunlight can lead to fading and aging. Furthermore, to maintain genuine leather in good condition, regular maintenance is required, such as cleaning and moisturizing with professional leather care products, which increases usage costs and maintenance complexity.
Ordinary PU or PVC Leather: Ordinary PU and PVC leathers are relatively common materials for office chair upholstery, offering a competitive edge in the market due to their relatively low prices. PU leather is a synthetic leather with good softness and elasticity, while PVC leather is made from polyvinyl chloride and has a relatively harder texture. However, both materials have poor aging resistance and are prone to cracking and peeling after two to three years of use, affecting the appearance and lifespan of office chairs. Moreover, their breathability is inferior to that of genuine leather and microfiber leather, potentially causing discomfort from stuffiness during prolonged use.
Microfiber Leather: Microfiber leather belongs to the high-end category of synthetic leathers, combining the advantages of multiple materials. It boasts excellent abrasion resistance, capable of withstanding daily friction and scratches without damage. Its hydrolysis resistance is also good, making it less prone to deterioration from hydrolysis even in humid environments. In terms of breathability, microfiber leather outperforms ordinary synthetic leathers, allowing the skin to breathe better and reducing stuffiness. Its price falls between that of genuine leather and ordinary PU or PVC leathers. Considering both performance and price factors, microfiber leather is a stable and cost-effective choice for office chair upholstery.
