Office Chair Leather Surface Damage

Admin October 16, 2026

The repair of damage to the leather surface of an office chair requires selecting an appropriate method based on the extent of the damage, as detailed below:

I. Small-area peeling or scratches

  1. Peeling treatment: First, use a soft cloth dipped in a cleaning agent to thoroughly clean the damaged area, removing dust and impurities. After the surface is completely dry, select a leather repair paste that matches the color of the chair's leather surface and apply it evenly to the peeled area. Use a scraper or sanding tool to smooth it out, ensuring the surface is flat. After the repair paste dries, spray a matching colorant to make the color consistent.
  2. Scratch treatment: For minor scratches, use fine sandpaper to sand the edges of the scratches, removing burrs and uneven parts. Then apply acrylic resin or a repair paste, and sand it flat when it is semi-dry. Finally, spray repair pigment and a fixative to make the repaired area consistent in color and texture with the surrounding leather.

II. Moderate damage

  1. Leather pasting: If the peeled area is large, cut a piece of leather in a similar color and paste it onto the damaged area with special adhesive. Then use an iron on a low temperature to flatten and fix it, being careful not to set the temperature too high to avoid damaging the leather surface.
  2. Patching or leather stickers: You can also directly apply a patch, choosing one that matches the style of the chair for repair; or use a leather sticker for repair. When pasting, use a scraper to remove air bubbles and ensure a tight fit.
  3. Partial replacement: If the local damage is severe and self-repair is ineffective, it is recommended to find a professional shop to replace the leather material of the same type to ensure repair quality and overall aesthetics.

III. Severe damage

  1. Professional repair: If there is large-area tearing or aging, self-repair is difficult, and you need to find a professional interior repair shop to re-cover or refurbish the chair. They have professional equipment and technology to better handle severe damage issues.
  2. Replacing the seat cover: You can also directly replace the seat cover that matches the style and size of the original chair, which is a simple and effective solution.
  3. Handling within the warranty period: If the chair is a genuine leather seat and within the warranty period, you can consult the 4S store, and in some cases, a free replacement may be available.

Repair tips:

  • Thoroughly clean the leather surface before repair to ensure better adhesion of the repair agent.
  • Repair agents are suitable for small-area cracks and scratches, filling and smoothing the surface; repair pastes are suitable for larger cracks, filling and hardening them.
  • After repair, you can apply a layer of protective oil to enhance the luster and prevent further damage.

Repair differences for chairs of different materials: Full-leather seats are suitable for professional leather repair products; for faux leather or PU seats, the repair agent needs to be selected specifically to avoid excessive use affecting breathability; for fabric + leather mixed seats, prioritize repairing the leather part, and find a professional if necessary.
