Office Chair Leather Removal
Admin October 22, 2026
The methods for removing the leather from office chairs vary depending on the type and structure of the chair. Here are some common removal steps:

Removal Steps for Genuine Leather Office Swivel Chairs
- Remove the Seat Cushion: Turn the chair upside down and place it on a stable surface, ensuring sufficient operating space and avoiding damage to the seat surface.
- Loosen the Base: Use a rubber mallet to evenly tap around the metal rim at the bottom of the seat cushion. The vibration will loosen the connection between the base and the leather surface. Then, use your hands to pull upwards and repeat the operation until the base becomes noticeably movable.
- Separate the Upper Seat from the Chassis: Use a screwdriver to remove the screws connecting the seat cushion and the chassis. Be sure to keep the screws for future installation. If the screws are rusty, spray a small amount of lubricant to assist in removal.
- Completely Separate the Components: Continue to lightly tap the edge of the metal chassis with a hammer. At the same time, hold the hydraulic rod steady with one hand and apply reverse force by stepping on the chassis with the other foot. Slowly separate the two. After separation, the fixed structure of the leather surface will be exposed for further processing.
Removal Steps for Ordinary Office Chairs (Fixed with Iron Wires)
- Disassemble the Bottom Iron Wires: Use pliers to one by one open the approximately ten iron wire winding points around the edge of the bottom seat cushion. Note that the iron wires may be tight, so apply even force to avoid breaking them.
- Separate the Seat Cushion from the Sponge: After disassembling the iron wires, separate the seat cushion from the sponge layer to expose the fixed area of the middle leather surface.
- Remove the Leather Surface: Use scissors to cut along the stitching line between the leather surface and the sponge. If the stitching line is dense, start from the corners and gradually disassemble it. Be careful during the removal process to avoid scratching the sponge or the chair frame.
Precautions
- Wear protective gloves before operating to prevent tool scratches or iron wire pricks.
- If the chair uses glue to fix the leather surface, first use a hot air blower to heat and soften the glue layer, and then slowly tear off the leather surface to avoid residual glue damaging the chair frame.
- After removal, keep all reusable components (such as screws and iron wires) for future installation or repair.
- If you are not familiar with the structure, it is recommended to take photos of each part before disassembly to avoid mistakes during reassembly.
