Office Chair Leather Materials

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair leather materials mainly fall into two categories: genuine leather and artificial leather.

Genuine Leather

  • Top-grain Cowhide: This is a high-quality genuine leather material. It boasts excellent wear resistance and breathability, with a soft touch and a strong texture. Its surface features natural patterns and is highly durable, capable of withstanding a certain degree of friction and use. Structurally, genuine leather has a natural fiber structure, offering better breathability than most artificial leathers. It possesses good extensibility and resilience, gradually adapting to the user's body shape to provide a body-fitting support. Moreover, the tiny gaps between the fibers allow air and water vapor to pass through, making it less prone to stuffiness during prolonged use. The surface is treated with tanning to form a protective film that resists daily wear and maintains softness, making it suitable for office settings with high demands for quality and comfort.
  • Split-grain Cowhide: This is a material obtained by splitting cowhide. Compared to top-grain cowhide, its wear resistance and breathability are slightly inferior, but its price is relatively more affordable. After special treatment, split-grain cowhide can also have a decent appearance and texture, meeting general office needs. It is an option for users with a limited budget who still want to use genuine leather office chairs.

Artificial Leather

Artificial leather is typically synthesized from chemical materials. It is affordable, with a wide variety of colors and textures, and is easy to clean and maintain. However, it falls short of natural leather in terms of texture and breathability, and prolonged use may cause a stuffy feeling. Common artificial leathers on the market include ordinary PU leather or PVC leather, which are inexpensive but have poor aging resistance and may crack or peel after two or three years of use. Microfiber, on the other hand, is a high-end category among synthetic leathers. It is wear-resistant and hydrolysis-resistant, with better breathability than ordinary synthetic leathers. Its price falls between genuine leather and ordinary PU leather or PVC leather, making it a stable and cost-effective choice for seat upholstery. It is suitable for office settings with a limited budget but a desire for a certain level of quality.
