Office Chair Leather Material

Admin October 16, 2026

There are mainly three types of leather materials for office chairs: genuine leather, ordinary PU or PVC leather, and microfiber.

Genuine Leather: Genuine leather is a natural material with a unique natural fiber structure. Its breathability is significantly better than that of most artificial leathers, thanks to its structure woven from collagen fibers. There are tiny gaps between the fibers that allow air and water vapor to pass through smoothly, making it less likely for users to feel stuffy even after prolonged use. Genuine leather also has good extensibility and resilience. Over long-term use, it can gradually adapt to the user's body shape, providing a body-fitting support and a comfortable sitting experience. Additionally, the surface of genuine leather, after tanning treatment, forms a protective film that not only resists daily wear and tear but also maintains the leather's softness. However, genuine leather also has some drawbacks. It is relatively expensive and is sensitive to water and sunlight, requiring regular maintenance by users to preserve its good performance and appearance.

Ordinary PU or PVC Leather: Office chairs made of this type of material are relatively inexpensive, making them attractive to budget-conscious consumers. However, they have poor aging resistance. Typically, after two or three years of use, problems such as cracking and peeling may occur, which not only affects the appearance of the office chair but also reduces its service life, necessitating frequent replacements. In the long run, this may not be cost-effective.

Microfiber: Microfiber is a high-end category among synthetic leathers, possessing many excellent characteristics. It is wear-resistant and hydrolysis-resistant, able to withstand the friction of daily use and certain environmental impacts, resulting in a relatively long service life. In terms of breathability, microfiber is superior to ordinary synthetic leathers, providing users with a relatively comfortable experience. Its price falls between that of genuine leather and ordinary PU or PVC leather. Considering both performance and price factors, microfiber is a stable and cost-effective choice for seat upholstery, ensuring a certain level of quality without imposing excessive financial burdens on consumers.
