Office Chair Leather Cover Replacement
Admin October 11, 2026
The replacement of an office chair's leather cover requires following a measurement-removal-installation process, with the core being selecting the right size and material and mastering the correct operation methods.

1. Measuring the Chair Dimensions
Measuring is the foundational step for purchasing a chair cover, and it is essential to accurately record key data:
- Seat Dimensions: Use a tape measure to determine the width (the farthest distance between the left and right sides) and depth (the distance between the front and back edges) of the seat to ensure the cover can fully cover it.
- Backrest Height: Measure vertically from the top of the seat to the top of the backrest. If the cover is a full-wrap type, also measure the vertical distance from the seat to the floor (i.e., the overall height of the chair).
- Data Comparison: Based on the measurement results, compare with the product size chart and choose a cover that is slightly larger than the actual dimensions (better to be larger than smaller) to avoid tearing or installation difficulties due to a size that is too small.
2. Removing the Old Chair Cover
Before removal, observe the fastening method and use targeted approaches to avoid damage:
- Elastic Cover: Simply pull it upwards, utilizing the elastic material's contractility to separate the cover from the chair.
- Tie-on Type: Untie all the knots, and take note of the tie positions for easy reinstallation and restoration later.
- Zipper Type: First, unzip the zipper, and then gradually separate the fabric from the chair structure.
- Snap/Velcro Type: Locate the seams and gently peel off layer by layer, avoiding excessive force that could tear old and fragile fabric.
3. Installing the New Chair Cover
When installing, distinguish between the front and back directions (usually the label is at the back) and follow the steps:
- Elastic Cover Installation:
- First, cover the front of the chair seat and pull it backward until it fully covers the seat.
- Pull the backrest part downward to ensure the bottom edge is flush with the seat and avoid wrinkles.
- Tie-on Type Installation:
- Lay the seat cover flat on the chair and cross-tie the bottom tightly to prevent shifting.
- Thread the ties of the backrest cover through the chair's gaps and tie them securely. If the chair has armrests, first cover the backrest and then adjust the armrest coverage.
4. Special Case References
- Handmade Leather Seat Cushion: Replicated 1:1 from the original leather, fully hand-punched and sewn, with an added layer of medium-density foam in the middle to enhance comfort, but it is time-consuming (requires professional tools and skills).
- Low-Cost Renovation: Use pliers to open the wire fastenings at the bottom of the seat cushion, replace the damaged fabric, and then sew it back together. The cost is about 10 yuan, but it requires some manual skills.
Precautions: Operate gently to avoid scratching the chair's surface; if the cover material is thin, add a layer of non-woven fabric underneath to enhance durability.
