Classification of Office Chair Leather

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair leather is mainly classified into three types: full-grain leather, corrected-grain leather, and synthetic leather.

Full-grain leather is a type of leather that retains the complete grain layer of natural leather. Its surface shows the original grain pattern, which is one of the most distinctive features of natural leather. Structurally, it has a tightly packed fiber structure that gives it good breathability, allowing air to circulate freely within the leather. This ensures that users do not feel stuffy even after sitting for long periods. Additionally, full-grain leather is highly durable and can withstand the friction and pulling forces encountered during daily use without easily getting damaged. However, due to its natural properties and high quality, full-grain leather is relatively expensive and is typically used in high-end office chairs to meet the needs of users who demand high quality and comfort.

Corrected-grain leather has undergone surface sanding and is coated with a protective layer. This treatment makes its appearance more uniform, eliminating the flaws and texture differences that may exist in natural leather, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing overall look. The protective layer enhances its resistance to abrasion, making it less prone to wear marks even with frequent contact with objects during daily use. Moreover, corrected-grain leather offers a balanced performance in terms of aesthetics and stain resistance. It not only has a certain degree of visual appeal but also effectively resists the attachment of stains, making it relatively easy to clean. It is suitable for users who have certain requirements for the appearance of office chairs and value practicality.

Synthetic leather is made primarily from polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride. It simulates the microscopic structure of natural leather to achieve a similar tactile feel, allowing users to experience a sensation somewhat akin to that of genuine leather. Synthetic leather has stable waterproof performance, effectively preventing water penetration and protecting office chairs from damage caused by liquid spills. Its color consistency is also excellent, as the color can be precisely controlled during the production process, ensuring that office chairs from the same batch or different batches maintain consistent colors. In terms of cost-effectiveness, synthetic leather has a significant advantage, being relatively inexpensive. It is also easy to clean, as stains can be removed simply by wiping with a damp cloth. Among them, ordinary PU leather or PVC leather is cheap but has poor aging resistance, and problems such as cracking and peeling may occur after two or three years of use. Microfiber, on the other hand, is a high-end category of synthetic leather. It is wear-resistant, hydrolysis-resistant, and has better breathability than ordinary synthetic leather. Its price is between that of genuine leather and ordinary synthetic leather.
