Office Chair: Leather and Mesh Fabric

Admin October 10, 2026

Leather and mesh fabric office chairs each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice should be based on the usage scenario and needs.

Leather Office Chairs
Common materials include PU leather or genuine leather, often used in executive chairs, mid-back chairs, and boss chairs. Their core advantage lies in stain resistance and easy cleaning: the surface is smooth and flat, and minor stains can be wiped off with a damp cloth without easily penetrating; genuine leather is more wear-resistant and suitable for scenarios that require a professional image (such as the offices of corporate executives). However, it should be noted that:

  1. Durability Limitations: Low-quality PU leather is prone to peeling and cracking after long-term use; genuine leather is afraid of scratches from sharp objects and immersion in liquids, and requires regular maintenance (such as applying special care oil), otherwise it is prone to drying and cracking.
  2. Comfort Design: Some leather boss chairs focus on sitting and lying comfort, using ergonomic designs (such as lumbar and head support) to relieve fatigue from prolonged sitting, but they have poor breathability and may feel stuffy in summer.

Mesh Fabric Office Chairs
Their core advantage is breathability, commonly found in small office chairs, especially suitable for summer or long-term desk work scenarios. Their characteristics include:

  1. Excellent Breathability: Made of high-tensile fibers such as nylon mesh or special mesh fabric, the surface is smooth and has a high porosity, allowing for smooth air circulation and reducing the feeling of stuffiness (such as the Deli mesh bow chair).
  2. Strong Wear Resistance: High-quality mesh fabric has a high wear coefficient and can withstand long-term sitting pressure without easily collapsing, but it should be protected from scratches by sharp objects (holes are difficult to repair).
  3. Environmental Adaptability: Prolonged exposure to sunlight or a humid environment can cause the mesh fabric to age and become brittle, affecting its service life, so it should be avoided being placed in extreme environments such as balconies or bathrooms.

Material Selection Recommendations

  • If you pursue easy cleaning, a professional image, or use in winter, leather office chairs are more suitable, but they require regular maintenance and protection from sharp objects.
  • If you focus on breathability, summer comfort, or have a limited budget, mesh fabric office chairs are the preferred choice, but you should pay attention to protecting them from scratches and sunlight in the usage environment.
  • Early office chairs were mainly made of leather, and later mesh and other materials gradually emerged. Modern products often combine the two materials (such as mesh fabric for the backrest and leather for the seat cushion) to balance breathability and durability.
