Office Chair Knob Assembly

Admin October 09, 2026

You can refer to the following steps for assembling the knob of an office chair:

Step 1: Locate the Correct Knob
Before assembly, confirm whether the cylindrical knob is one of the fixing components at the bottom of the office chair. Some office chairs may be equipped with multiple knobs, but only one is used to fix the base. Confirm its function by observing the shape and position of the knob or referring to the instruction manual. If the knob has a threaded structure, it is usually the core component for height adjustment and should be installed first.

Step 2: Prepare Tools and Clean the Base
You will need a suitable screwdriver (such as a Phillips or flat-head type), tweezers or pliers (for handling small parts) as tools. Before installation, thoroughly clean the area around the base hole to ensure there is no debris, packaging material, or old parts remaining, which could affect the insertion of the knob or cause an unstable installation. If the base has rust or stains, wipe it clean with a dry cloth.

Step 3: Install the Knob

  1. Insertion and Positioning: Align the knob vertically with the base hole and gently press it to make it initially fit in. If the knob is threaded, rotate it counterclockwise (some designs may be clockwise; follow the actual thread direction) until the bottom of the knob is flush with the surface of the base to ensure full thread engagement.
  2. Fix the Screws: Use a screwdriver to tighten the fixing screws (usually 1-2) on the edge of the knob. The tightening force should be moderate: If it is too loose, the knob will be loose; if it is too tight, it may crack the plastic parts or cause the threads to strip. It is recommended to use the standard of "the knob cannot be turned by hand" as a guide.

Step 4: Function Check and Adjustment
After installation, test the function of the knob:

  • Height Adjustment Test: Rotating the knob clockwise should raise the chair, and rotating it counterclockwise should lower it. There should be no jamming or abnormal noise during the process.
  • Stability Check: Press down hard on the seat surface and observe whether the base shakes. If the knob is installed too shallowly or the screws are not tightened, the base may be unstable.
  • Abnormality Handling: If the knob cannot be rotated, it may be due to misaligned threads or overly tight screws, and it needs to be readjusted; if it continues to be loose, check whether the base hole is worn and replace the parts if necessary.

Precautions

  • Avoid using excessive force during installation, especially for plastic parts, to prevent breakage.
  • If you are not familiar with the structure, it is recommended to take a photo of the base before installation for easy comparison and troubleshooting.
  • For complex situations (such as a knob missing threads or a deformed base hole), contact after-sales service or a professional repair person. Do not modify it yourself.
