JIS Standards for Office Chairs
The JIS standards related to office chairs mainly include JIS S 1203, JIS S 1206:2013, and the revised version of the JIS impact test for Japanese office chairs. Here is a detailed introduction:

JIS S 1203: This is a strength and durability testing standard for furniture chairs and stools in the Japanese Industrial Standards system. It is applicable to various structural types of seating products, although reclining chairs are not within its scope. The standard focuses on testing several key aspects of the seating to evaluate its structural stability under long-term use and stress. Among them, the static load test for seats checks the stability of the seat when bearing a certain weight; the back strength test evaluates the strength performance of the backrest under stress; the fatigue test simulates the performance changes of the seat during long-term repeated use; and the drop impact test examines the impact resistance of the seat in case of accidental drops.
JIS S 1206:2013: This standard specifically stipulates the testing methods for the stability, strength, and durability of office chairs in office furniture. It covers the basic requirements for testing, clarifying the prerequisites that need to be met for each test; provides detailed regulations on test equipment to ensure that the equipment used during testing meets standard requirements and can accurately measure relevant data; explains the test procedures in detail to make the testing process operable and repeatable; and also gives the basis for result determination, judging whether the office chair meets quality requirements based on test data, providing a comprehensive and specific basis for the quality control of office chairs.
Revised Version of the JIS Impact Test for Japanese Office Chairs: This revised version puts forward more detailed requirements for the stability and durability of office chairs when subjected to impacts. It expands the scope of testing, not only focusing on the performance of the entire seat under impact but also adding evaluations of components such as armrests, backrests, and gas springs. At the same time, the testing equipment and requirements are more standardized, ensuring the accuracy and comparability of test results. In addition, the testing frequency and number of cycles have increased, enabling stricter inspection of the performance of office chairs under multiple impacts, thereby ensuring higher reliability and safety of the product in actual use.
