Office Chair Iron Plate Cracked
When the iron plate of an office chair is cracked, in addition to welding, it can also be repaired using the following methods:

Combination repair with AB glue and connecting plates
This method is suitable for scenarios where the fracture surface is flat and aesthetics need to be considered. Mix AB glue in proportion and apply it evenly to the fracture. Wait for it to fully cure (usually more than 24 hours). Select stainless steel or aluminum alloy connecting plates, mark the hole-drilling positions, and then drill holes using an electric drill or soldering iron. Fix the connecting plates on both sides of the fracture with screws. This method enhances structural strength through the dual effects of chemical bonding of the glue and mechanical fixation. Finally, carbon fiber stickers can be used to cover the repair marks and improve aesthetics.A-glue bonding with secondary reinforcement using metal sheets
This is for small-scale fractures in non-load-bearing parts (such as the backrest decorative plate). Use high-strength A-glue (such as epoxy resin) to bond the fracture surface. Ensure that the contact surface is clean, dry, and free of oil stains. After bonding, install metal sheets (such as 0.5-1mm thick iron or aluminum sheets) that are compatible with the chair material and fix them with screws or rivets. The metal sheets should cover the fracture area and extend to the intact part, forming a 'buffer zone' to disperse stress and prevent secondary fractures caused by local stress concentration.Carbon fiber patch winding reinforcement
This is suitable for parts that need to bear bending moments, such as chair legs and armrests. Carbon fiber patches have high modulus (up to 200-600GPa) and corrosion resistance. By winding them, a continuous load-bearing layer can be formed. When operating, cut the patches to an appropriate width and wind them crosswise at a 45ยฐ angle along the fracture direction to ensure tight adhesion to the substrate without air bubbles. The number of winding layers should be adjusted according to the load requirements (usually 3-5 layers). Finally, apply an epoxy resin protective layer. After curing, the strength can be close to that of the original metal structure.Drilling holes and installing metal plates to form a 'splint' structure
This is for fractures in load-bearing structures (such as the connection between the five-star base and the seat plate). Select 2-3mm thick steel plates or angle irons as reinforcement plates. Drill holes symmetrically on both sides of the fracture (the hole diameter should match the screws). Fix the metal plates on the upper and lower sides of the fracture with screws to form a 'splint' structure. This method can significantly improve the local load-bearing capacity (experiments show it can increase by 50%-80%). However, attention should be paid to balancing the thickness of the metal plates with the overall weight of the chair to avoid instability due to a top-heavy situation.
Repair precautions:
- Thoroughly clean the fracture surface before repair to remove rust, oil stains, and other impurities;
- Apply anti-rust treatment to metal parts (such as spraying anti-rust paint or galvanizing);
- After repair, avoid immediate heavy loads. It is recommended to let it stand for 24-48 hours for the glue to fully cure;
- If the fracture involves safety-critical parts (such as the connection of the pneumatic rod), it is recommended to contact professional repair services or replace the chair with a new one.
