Office Chair Iron Frame Painting

Admin October 16, 2026

Common painting processes for office chair iron frames include ordinary spraying, baking paint, and electrophoretic coating. The choice of process should be based on a comprehensive consideration of performance requirements, cost, and usage scenarios.

Characteristics of Ordinary Spraying Process

Ordinary spraying includes types such as electrostatic powder spraying and self-drying paint. Its curing relies on physical drying or low-temperature baking (usually below 180ยฐC). Its core advantages lie in low cost and flexible processes, making it suitable for scenarios with limited budgets or low surface performance requirements. However, it has obvious drawbacks: if the process is not properly controlled (such as uneven spraying thickness or insufficient drying temperature), surface defects like orange peel and sagging are prone to occur; the coating has low hardness, is prone to wear and whitening due to friction after long-term use, and has weak corrosion resistance. Additionally, ordinary spraying has poor gloss uniformity, which may lead to color differences or rough textures due to differences in coating thickness, affecting overall aesthetics.

Characteristics of Baking Paint Process

Baking paint requires high-temperature baking (180ยฐC-250ยฐC) to cause a chemical cross-linking reaction in the paint, forming a dense network structure. Its core advantage lies in excellent performance: strong adhesion, significantly better scratch resistance, corrosion resistance, and yellowing resistance compared to ordinary spraying, making it especially suitable for office chair iron frames that are frequently touched or prone to sweat erosion (such as in public office areas and conference rooms). In terms of appearance and texture, baking paint has a smooth and flat surface, high and uniform gloss, and rich colors, presenting a high-end metallic texture and significantly enhancing product quality. However, the baking paint process has high costs, requires professional baking equipment, and high temperatures may cause thermal stress to the iron frame structure, necessitating strict control of process parameters.

Characteristics of Electrophoretic Coating Process

Electrophoretic coating uses an electric field to deposit charged paint particles on the surface of the iron frame, forming a uniform coating. Its core advantages lie in excellent corrosion resistance, good leveling, and high environmental friendliness: the paint utilization rate is close to 100%, with low VOC emissions, meeting modern environmental standards; the coating thickness is uniform, with good coverage of edges and corners, effectively preventing rust. However, the electrophoretic process has extremely high requirements for the stability of the tank solution, requiring regular monitoring of parameters such as pH value and conductivity, otherwise production efficiency may be affected; in addition, the equipment investment cost is high, and it is mostly used in high-end furniture or scenarios with strict corrosion resistance requirements.

Suggestions for Renovating Old Iron Chairs

If you need to renovate old iron chairs yourself, you can follow these steps:

  1. Surface pretreatment: Remove loose paint flakes and sand the surface until rough to enhance coating adhesion;
  2. Cleaning and rust removal: Clean the surface with a solvent or rust remover to ensure it is free of oil and rust;
  3. Primer application: Select an anti-rust blocking primer (such as epoxy zinc-rich primer) and apply it evenly 1-2 times to form a corrosion-resistant layer after drying;
  4. Topcoat spraying: Use aerosol paint or water-based metallic paint, maintaining a distance of 20-30 cm for uniform spraying, applying small amounts multiple times to avoid sagging;
  5. Drying and curing: Self-drying paint should be left to stand in a well-ventilated area for more than 24 hours to ensure complete drying.
