Office Chair Installation Misalignment

Admin October 11, 2026

Office chair installation misalignment can be troubleshot and fixed through the following steps:

1. Check the wheel status

If the chair is tilted, first confirm whether the wheel feet are in even contact with the ground. Observe the chair when placed upright and upside down. If you find that the wheel feet are bent, deformed, or damaged (such as wheel jamming or breakage), it will cause the chair's center of gravity to shift. In this case, purchase wheels that match the original model for replacement to avoid secondary tilting due to size or structural differences.

2. Standardize the wheel replacement process

  1. Remove the old wheels:

    • Hold the wheel with one hand and grasp the bottom of the chair with the other hand. Pull it straight out forcefully. If the wheel foot is stuck, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the gap (about 2-3mm deep) between the wheel foot and the chair base. Use the lever principle to pry it slowly to avoid damaging the base socket.
    • Do not use brute force or sharp tools to strike directly to prevent base deformation.
  2. Apply lubricant:

    • Spray a small amount of WD-40 lubricant into each base socket or apply a pea-sized amount of medical petroleum jelly. The lubricant can reduce metal friction, lower installation resistance, and prevent oxidation and rust.
    • Wait 1-2 minutes for the lubricant to penetrate to avoid ineffective lubrication due to immediate installation.
  3. Install the new wheels:

    • Align the metal rod of the new wheel with the socket and gently tap the top of the wheel with a rubber mallet to ensure the rod is fully inserted into the base (the depth should be โ‰ฅ15mm). If insertion is difficult, slightly rotate the wheel to adjust the angle.
    • After installation, check whether the wheel rotates flexibly without jamming or abnormal noise.
  4. Test stability:

    • Place the chair upside down to simulate normal use. Sit on the chair seat and slowly rotate and tilt it forward and backward to confirm that the wheels roll smoothly without wobbling.

3. Check the seat plate connection

If the problem persists after replacing the wheels, check the connection status of the seat plate (a square black steel plate). Place the chair on its side and observe whether the fixing screws between the seat plate and the chair frame are loose or missing. If any screws are missing, use screws of the original specification to re-tighten them. If the seat plate is deformed or broken, contact the manufacturer for replacement parts.

4. Strict installation acceptance

After installation, conduct professional acceptance:

  • Use a level to check whether the chair seat is horizontal (the error should be โ‰ค2mm).
  • Use a tape measure to measure the height difference of the chair legs (the accuracy should be โ‰ฅ1mm) to ensure that all four legs are of the same length.
  • Focus on checking the tightness of the screws (the torque should meet the requirements in the instruction manual) and the alignment of the components to avoid chair misalignment due to installation negligence.
