How to Install an Office Chair

Admin October 19, 2026

The steps for installing an office chair are as follows:

1. Install the casters and chair base
Align each caster with the mounting holes on the chair base, press firmly or rotate until fully engaged, ensuring each caster is securely installed. After installation, insert the gas lift vertically into the center hole of the chair base, ensuring the bottom of the gas lift fits snugly against the base. The gas lift is the core component for adjusting the seat height and must be kept vertical to avoid wobbling during subsequent use.

2. Install the seat plate and seat
Place the seat plate on the bottom of the seat, align the screw holes, and temporarily secure it with screws. Pay attention to the orientation of the seat plate, which is usually marked with front-back directions or functional indicators (such as the position of the adjustment lever). Use a screwdriver to insert each screw 3-4 turns, ensuring all screws are evenly stressed before tightening them one by one to prevent the seat plate from tilting or becoming loose.

3. Connect the backrest and seat
After the seat is fixed, align the backrest with the seat. First, use two screws to pass through the bottom of the armrest bracket to secure the bottom of the backrest; then align the mounting holes at the back of the backrest with the holes on the seat cushion bracket, and use two wrenches (or hex wrenches) to lock the screws in place. The locking operation requires tightening the screws on both sides simultaneously to ensure the backrest and seat are firmly connected without lateral wobbling.

4. Install the seat assembly and gas lift
Align the base hole of the assembled seat assembly (including the seat, backrest, and seat plate) with the top of the gas lift, and press down vertically until fully inserted. Ensure the piston of the gas lift is fully inserted into the hole of the seat plate to avoid failure of the seat height adjustment function. After insertion, gently shake the seat to check if it is properly installed.

5. Install the armrests and headrest

  • Armrest installation: Press the button below the armrest surface (some models require pressing the latch), and insert the left and right armrests into the holes of the armrest brackets respectively. A "click" sound indicates successful installation.
  • Headrest installation: Place the headrest in the middle position at the top of the backrest, and press firmly on the headrest mounting area to make it fit against the backrest. Pass a screw through the headrest fixing clip and screw it into the reserved hole on the backrest, also inserting it 3-4 turns first and then tightening it one by one to ensure the headrest is not loose.

Precautions:

  • Avoid using excessive force during installation to prevent damage to parts or screw stripping.
  • All screws should be tightened to an appropriate torque; over-tightening may cause plastic parts to crack, while under-tightening affects stability.
  • If the seat wobbles after installation, check whether the casters, gas lift, or connecting parts are properly installed.
