Office Chair Installation Checklist

Admin October 12, 2026

The components and steps required for office chair installation are as follows:

I. Component List

  1. Basic Structural Components:

    • Casters (Swivel Casters/Universal Wheels): Used to support the chair and enable flexible movement, typically 5 in number, must match the five-star base.
    • Five-Star Base (Five-Pronged Base): The bottom support structure of the chair, providing stability, usually made of plastic or metal.
    • Gas Lift (Height Adjustment Rod): The core component for controlling the seat height, ensuring its quality meets safety standards (e.g., BIFMA certification).
    • Base Plate (Seat Tray): The part connecting the gas lift to the seat, often including a mechanism for adjusting the recline angle.
    • Seat: The main part bearing the weight of the body, must be firmly fixed to the base plate.
  2. Functional and Decorative Components:

    • Armrests: Provide arm support, some models support height or angle adjustment.
    • Backrest (Including Bracket/Mesh): Supports the back, noting the connection method between the bracket and the seat (e.g., snap-fit or screw fixation).
    • Screws and Tools: Used to fix various components, selecting the appropriate specifications according to the instructions (e.g., M6, M8 screws).
    • Decorative Accessories: Such as decorative buttons, diamond plates, etc., used to enhance aesthetics, not essential but installed as needed.

II. Installation Steps

  1. Assemble the Bottom Structure:

    • Insert the casters into the holes of the five-star base, some may require firm pressing or twisting to ensure no looseness.
    • Flip the five-star base and vertically insert the gas lift into the center hole, paying attention to the direction (usually the end marked 'TOP' faces upwards).
  2. Secure the Seat to the Base Plate:

    • Align the base plate with the mounting position on the bottom of the seat, tighten the fixing screws with a screwdriver (it is recommended to manually pre-tighten first, then reinforce one by one).
    • Connect the seat to the gas lift, insert it into the hole of the base plate and gently press down to ensure the gas lift and the base plate snap-fit completely.
  3. Install Armrests and Backrest:

    • Align the armrests with the holes on both sides of the seat, insert the screws but do not tighten them yet (facilitates subsequent adjustment of backrest alignment).
    • Install the backrest bracket, align it with the holes of the armrests and the seat, first fix the bottom screws, then adjust the backrest angle and tighten the top screws.
  4. Final Inspection and Adjustment:

    • Tighten all screws to ensure no looseness or omission.
    • Install decorative accessories (such as decorative buttons) and test the chair's functions (whether height adjustment, recline, rotation, etc., are normal).

III. Precautions

  • Component Inspection: Check the list before installation to avoid missing screws or accessories (such as lumbar supports, headrests, etc., additional modules).
  • Gas Lift Safety: Do not insert it in reverse or violently strike the gas lift to prevent explosion risks (choose products from reputable brands).
  • Function Adjustment: Some chairs support personalized settings such as headrest angle (e.g., 0-90 degree adjustment), lumbar support height, etc., refer to the instructions for operation.

The above steps are based on general office chair design, specific models may vary, it is recommended to carefully read the product instructions before installation.
