Office Chair Inspection Report
Admin October 09, 2026
The office chair inspection report reveals that multiple inspections by market regulatory authorities have found quality and safety issues in some products. Consumers should pay close attention to risk indicators such as stability, formaldehyde emissions, and explosion-proof design.

I. Inspection Results from the State Administration for Market Regulation
- 2019 Inspection: Covering 90 enterprises across 11 provinces and cities, 21 out of 90 batches of products were found to be unqualified, with a non-compliance rate of 23.3%. Swivel chairs were a major issue, with 17 batches of unqualified products being swivel chairs. The main problems included insufficient flame retardancy, wheel wear, excessive formaldehyde levels, and safety defects (such as the absence of explosion-proof steel plates).
- Recent Inspection: Among 101 batches of products produced by 101 enterprises nationwide, 15 batches were found to be unqualified, with the non-compliance rate dropping to 14.9%. The main issues were stability (7 batches), wheel wear (5 batches), and excessive formaldehyde emissions (4 batches).
II. Unqualified Items and Risk Analysis
- Stability: Some products are prone to tipping over when leaning forward, backward, or sitting sideways, potentially causing users to fall and get injured. Special attention should be paid to the tilt mechanism design of swivel chairs.
- Wheel Wear: Poor-quality wheels are prone to detachment or jamming, affecting service life and potentially damaging floors with long-term use.
- Formaldehyde Emissions: Some products use inferior adhesives or boards, leading to excessive formaldehyde levels. Long-term exposure may trigger respiratory diseases or allergic reactions.
- Safety: Pneumatic swivel chairs without explosion-proof steel plates may explode if the pneumatic rod fails (as in the 2017 Anhui explosion case), causing serious injuries.
- Flame Retardancy: Office chairs used in public places that fail flame retardancy standards are prone to causing fires when exposed to open flames, posing a threat to personnel safety.
III. Typical Cases and Problematic Enterprises
- Explosion Incidents: Surveillance footage shows a red swivel chair suddenly exploding, with the user being thrown off; an office chair explosion in Anhui resulted in the separation of the base from the seat, with parts scattered around.
- Problematic Enterprises: Swivel chairs produced by Shanghai Xingaofan and Dongguan Xieji lacked explosion-proof steel plates; Anji Dipu Risheng and Liaoning Kangfu had excessive formaldehyde emissions.
IV. Consumer Advice
- When Purchasing: Prioritize reputable channels and well-known brands. Check if the product is marked with safety certifications (such as explosion-proof steel plates and flame retardancy labels) and avoid buying unbranded products.
- During Use: Avoid sitting in the same position for extended periods. Regularly check if components such as wheels and pneumatic rods are loose. If abnormalities are found, stop using immediately and contact after-sales service.
