Office Chair Inspection

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair inspection should be carried out comprehensively from multiple aspects, including inspection items, scope, instruments and equipment, standard procedures, and technical specifications.

I. Inspection Items Office chair inspection should cover all aspects of physical and mechanical properties, safety performance, material environmental friendliness, and ergonomic characteristics.

  1. Stability: Evaluate the anti-tipping capability through tipping tests. For example, place the chair on an inclined test bench, apply a specified force at the front or rear, and observe whether it tips over.
  2. Strength and Durability: Conduct static load, impact, and fatigue tests on components such as the seat, backrest, armrests, casters, and gas rods. For instance, use a universal material testing machine to apply tens of thousands of reciprocating loads to the seat to simulate deformation or damage after long-term use.
  3. Safety: Check for gaps in rotating parts, flame retardancy, and the presence of potential hazards such as sharp edges, shear points, and gaps in tubular components. For example, a gap gauge is used to measure whether the gaps between components comply with safety standards to prevent finger or clothing injuries.
  4. Limit of Harmful Substances: Detect the release levels of formaldehyde, heavy metals, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Samples need to be taken and pre-treated according to specified methods, and then analyzed using precise instruments such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and spectrophotometers to ensure material environmental friendliness.
  5. Ergonomic Dimensions and Adjustment Functions: Verify whether the product complies with ergonomic design, such as whether the seat height, backrest angle, and armrest adjustment range meet user comfort requirements.

II. Inspection Scope and Objects Inspection is usually conducted on finished chairs, applicable to office swivel chairs made of various materials such as metal, plastic, wood, textile fabrics, and leather. The focus is on evaluating their comprehensive performance under simulated normal use and foreseeable misuse conditions.

III. Inspection Instruments and Equipment

  1. Core Equipment: Universal material testing machine, multi-functional seat fatigue testing machine (for strength testing), stability test bench (for tipping tests), impact testing machine (to simulate collision scenarios), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (for harmful substance analysis).
  2. Auxiliary Tools: Dimension measuring instruments (such as angle gauges and height gauges), loading weights, environmental chambers (for VOC testing), calibration blocks, gap gauges, etc.

IV. Standard Inspection Procedures

  1. Sample Preparation: Ensure that the chair to be tested is a fully assembled finished product and condition it in a standard temperature and humidity environment.
  2. Instrument Calibration: Calibrate all measuring instruments before formal testing to ensure data accuracy.
  3. Testing Steps: Conduct the tests in the order of dimension and appearance inspection โ†’ stability testing โ†’ strength and durability testing โ†’ safety testing โ†’ harmful substance detection, and simultaneously record raw data such as load, number of cycles, and deformation.

V. Technical Standards and Specifications Inspection is based on China's national mandatory standards (such as the GB280 series) and local regulations (such as the 2026 Implementation Rules for the Quality Supervision and Random Inspection of Office Chair Products in Anji County), combined with domestic and foreign authoritative specifications, to ensure timeliness and pertinence.
