Office Chair Insider Info

Admin October 08, 2026

The "insider info" on office chairs mainly focuses on aspects such as price and quality, materials, structural design, second-hand refurbishment, and filling materials. Consumers need to make rational distinctions.

In terms of price and quality, the price range of office chairs on the market is extremely wide, from several hundred yuan to tens of thousands of yuan. However, there is no direct correlation between price and comfort or durability. Some manufacturers inflate prices by exaggerating materials or falsely advertising "ergonomic design", which may not actually meet standards. For example, chairs priced below 350 yuan often use recycled foam, which costs only half as much as virgin foam. This type of material may pose risks of excessive formaldehyde and has poor elasticity and is prone to collapse, potentially affecting health with long-term use.

When it comes to material selection, leather office chairs, while having a high-end appearance, have poor breathability and durability, and are prone to sweating and deformation with prolonged use. In contrast, mesh materials offer better breathability and are more suitable for long hours of office work. Taking a factory in Guangdong as an example, mesh office chairs showed no significant deformation or damage after 500 hours of continuous use, while leather chairs developed wrinkles after just 200 hours, highlighting a significant difference in durability.

Regarding structural design and adjustment functions, some manufacturers' advertised multi-functional adjustments may have design flaws, such as stuttering or unsmooth adjustment mechanisms, which affect the user experience. A reasonable structural design should ensure smooth adjustments and provide lasting comfort, rather than simply pursuing a large number of functions.

Second-hand office chair refurbishment requires four standardized processes: evaluation and testing, disassembly and cleaning, repair and replacement, and quality inspection and certification. Each process has clear standards. For example, after disassembly, components must be thoroughly cleaned, and damaged parts must be replaced. Finally, quality inspection ensures that hygiene and quality standards are met. Consumers can prioritize choosing products that have undergone such standardized refurbishment.

There is a phenomenon of using inferior materials as high-quality ones in the filling materials of ergonomic chairs. Some factories recycle foam scraps or used foam, bond and press them into recycled foam with glue, and even cover the surface with virgin foam to conceal the inferior internal materials. This type of recycled foam contains glue hardened lumps and debris, has a rough feel and poor elasticity, and may cause discomfort with long-term use. Consumers need to carefully distinguish by touching and pressing.
