Office Chair Injury News
Office chairs do pose a risk of injury, with common accident types including falls caused by structural failures, pinching by components, and explosions of pneumatic lifting chairs causing injuries.

Falls caused by structural failures are relatively common accidents. For example, Toshinori Yano stepped on a folding chair while organizing items at a high place. Due to a chair malfunction, he fell backward and hit the edge of a table with the back of his head, resulting in bleeding. Such accidents are usually due to quality issues with the chair itself, such as loose connections or unstable support structures. When subjected to significant pressure or external forces, the chair cannot remain stable, causing the person to lose balance and fall, resulting in injuries to different parts of the body.
Pinching by components is also a form of injury caused by office chairs. A woman had her fingernail pinched off and bled while moving a chair. This may be due to design flaws in the chair, such as overly large gaps between components or a lack of reasonable protective measures for moving parts, making it easy for users' body parts to get pinched and causing pinching injuries.
Explosions of pneumatic lifting chairs causing injuries are the most serious and dangerous type of accident. CCTV has exposed such hidden dangers, with multiple related cases occurring. For instance, a 14-year-old boy in Jiaozhou, Shandong, was adjusting a lifting chair when it suddenly exploded, and a rod pierced his body, and he did not survive. A 28-year-old white-collar worker in Hangzhou had her lifting chair explode, with the pneumatic rod penetrating the seat and causing severe waist injuries, leaving her permanently disabled. A pregnant woman in Quanzhou, Fujian, was using an unbranded lifting chair when it suddenly exploded, and she fell from a height and had a miscarriage. In 2013, Ms. Liu was sitting on an online-purchased lifting swivel chair to blow-dry her hair when the chair exploded without warning. A steel rod with a diameter of 3 centimeters shot up from the bottom like a cannonball, instantly piercing through her body and into her abdomen. Dozens of metal fragments were removed from her abdomen and intestines. The main reasons for the explosions of pneumatic lifting chairs are substandard quality of the pneumatic rods, impure gases filled inside, or poor sealing of the pneumatic rods. During long-term use or when subjected to external impacts, explosions may occur, causing extremely serious harm to users.
