Office Chair Injury

Admin October 09, 2026

Office chair injuries mainly refer to explosion problems caused by component defects in pneumatic lifting swivel chairs, which can result in serious bodily harm or even death.

Typical Cases

  1. 2009 Jiaozhou, Shandong Incident: A 14-year-old boy was adjusting a pneumatic chair when the pneumatic rod exploded, piercing his buttocks and injuring multiple blood vessels, ultimately leading to death from excessive blood loss.
  2. 2010 Fujian Incident: A woman fell unconscious due to an explosion of a pneumatic chair, with her buttocks injured.
  3. 2007 Yantai, Shandong Incident: A 68-year-old man suffered severe injuries to his buttocks, legs, rectum, anal canal, and small intestine due to an explosion of the pneumatic chair he was sitting on.
  4. Ms. Liu's Incident in Xiamen: An explosion of a pneumatic chair injured her buttocks, and doctors removed more than ten chair fragments from her intestines.

Causes of Explosions

  1. Material Defects in Pneumatic Rods: Thin tube walls or the use of inferior materials that cannot withstand internal pressure.
  2. Insufficient Gas Purity: Low purity of inert gases (such as nitrogen) or replacement with compressed air (which contains oxygen and can easily oxidize, triggering explosions).
  3. Improper Use: Frequent lifting and lowering causing a sudden increase in temperature, or use in high-temperature environments (such as direct sunlight).
  4. Sealing Issues: Air leakage from the pneumatic rod or poor sealing at the closure, leading to rapid gas release.

Preventive Measures

  1. Choose Genuine Products: Prioritize products priced over 200 yuan with clear manufacturers, and check if the pneumatic rod lifts smoothly.
  2. Check Explosion-Proof Design: Ensure that an explosion-proof steel plate with a thickness of at least 2 millimeters is installed between the seat cushion and the pneumatic rod to reduce the impact of explosions.
  3. Avoid Three-No Products: Do not purchase products without brands, instructions, or quality certificates, and ask merchants for invoices to protect your rights.
  4. Standardize Usage Habits: Reduce frequent adjustment of the lifting handle and avoid excessive force; avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or proximity to heat sources.

By choosing qualified products, checking safety designs, and using them properly, the risk of pneumatic chair explosions can be effectively reduced.
