Impurities in Office Chairs

Admin October 08, 2026

The potential impurity issues in office chairs mainly involve three aspects: panels, sponges, and wheels, as detailed below:

Panel Impurities

To reduce costs, some inexpensive office chairs use recycled crushed panels or low-density mixed panels as raw materials. These panels have a loose internal structure with large gaps and a high impurity content. During production, due to the poor quality of the raw materials, other unknown substances may be mixed in. When exposed to humid environments, the panels easily absorb moisture, leading to swelling, bulging, and deformation. Additionally, when new furniture uses these types of panels, there is often a strong odor that dissipates slowly. This is because the impurities and potentially harmful substances in the panels are being slowly released, which not only affects the user experience but may also pose a potential threat to human health.

Sponge Impurities

Inexpensive office chairs also have issues with sponge selection. Some products use low-density thin sponges or recycled crushed sponges for assembly. These sponges may be mixed with various impurities during production, such as dust and fiber debris. After a period of use, typically 1-2 months, noticeable changes occur in the seat cushions. Due to the low density and poor quality of the sponges, the cushions easily become flat and collapse, losing their original resilience. Moreover, due to uneven assembly, local depressions may occur, and in severe cases, they may even trap the user's legs, causing inconvenience.

Wheel Adsorption of Impurities

The wheels of office chairs continuously roll and come into contact with the ground during daily use. In this process, the wheels adsorb impurities from the ground, such as dust, dirt, and hair. At the same time, the wheels themselves experience wear and tear during rolling, and the wear debris mixes with the adsorbed impurities to form black fragments. These fragments not only affect the smooth movement of the office chair but may also scatter around the environment, affecting the cleanliness of the office area.
